I am a machinist whom is new to Rc and i have totally become infatuated with it. so along these lines i have decided that i want to combine my two biggest passions. Making stuff and RC. I want to build a custom MT of my own design that i will make on CNC. I will be making this 1/8th scale with a dual brushless system, most likely fegaio or the upcoming Mamba Max. What i would like know from the rc unverse forumers is what they believe are some of the best design elements of the current Monster trucks on the market. i want to take a look at these and use these as inspiration to complete my design. for example i hear great things about the revo transmission especcially with the robinson racing gear upgrade. things like that you know..... any help and insight from the many experienced people on this forum would be greatly appreciated! now like i said i am new to this (especially with forums) and i have only posted once previously and was made fun of and ridiculed i ask that if you have something to offer i would be very thankful and appreciate it, but if you want to be rude please just don't bother with a reply. I have searched this forum as best as i can and haven't found something as specific as i am asking. if i missed something please let me know. i don't want to be annoying or redundant. thanks ever so much and look forward to what you say............

I think this would be some guide lines:

8 Shocks
-2 each wheel
Dual Batterys
-Possible lipos
Strong Tranny
-Strong tranny means strong tranny
Strong Steering
-Dual Servos
Looks
-Custom Painted body
Tall but wide at the same time so it doesnt roll
-Change able
4wd
-Offroad

I would go with a 4mm 7071 Dual TVP design for super ruggedness. Ask the member "Chronic" for some help on TVP's if you need it. He's built tons of custom ones for Savage owners...

Perhaps room for an airplane fuel tank. Maybe 300cc's...

Four wheel steering with dual servos for front and back. So four total servos!

Chronic has been gone for half a year already.. Anyway, I suggest you make the truck with a pan chassis, dual verticle plate will be more durable, but with a pan you will have more space, and you can use more parts from other trucks. I suggest the use of 4 shocks, 8 give you more unsprung weight and more problems when things go wrong. Take a look at the LST2 shocks, one of the biggest/baddest shocks on the market... I also dont suggest dual servos, buy one very strong one since two are not always in sync and once again there are more things to go wrong. The Revo transmission with RR gears is a good choice. If your building a monster truck I would suggest taking a tranny from the Savage or MGT however because they are proven to be more durable. Dual Lipos will be expensive, but you will have insane performance and run time. Good luck[8D] Tom.

Im trying to give him tips to have an awesome rig with the least possible headaches. Some of your suggestions give more room for mistakes, Im just pointing out whats wise or whats not. Whats better having a truck thats cool but breaks all the time? Or have a truck thats just as cool that looks different but is tough as nails..[8D]

thanks so much for all of the input. it gives me a great place to start.... i think that i can come up with something really unique by examining tried and true techniques and expanding and or redesigning... this will be a lot of fun

Been down the road you're starting on (I have a cnc mill and lathe). Starting from scratch is a HUGE undertaking... best to pick a truck and improve it gradually (for durability you can't beat the Savage). Thanks....i do know that this is a huge undertaking, but that is half the fun. here is something else that i know will spark some debate..... i want to make this a basher (as i have no skills with racing) but i do really want to go fast and take jumps well.... should i go solid axle or independent?

IMO, if you ever want to try rock crawling, go solid axle. For everything else independent is probably better. Although, you might have less maintenance with a solid axle...
