RE: Project Hard-CORR
I know you don't want to give up the K&N..but if you got a foam pre filter on top of the paper filter like on 1:1 dirt oval race cars..I think it would work better than a filter down further in line.

RE: Project Hard-CORR
that looks so cool. I wanted to do a custom build but Ive only been in the hobby for a year so I think I should get a little more wrenching experience before I attempt something like that. BUUUUTTTTT. Would you mind showing the equipment you used so I know what i will need. Im not worried about the parts bought but the parts you made. Not to much of a race fan but I love those corr trucks.
thanks

RE: Project Hard-CORR
This was accually inspired by Slash. I saw Slash before most people even knew about it. It was on display at the Traxxas booth at the opening 2008 CORR race season last April. I'm not into electric and I like scale rigs better like those scale crawlers. So that's the whole idea behind this. But you better believe I'll be picking up 2 Slayers when they hit.
Westphil, you asking about the parts I've made and with what equipment? Well first I picked up a gas welder. Hack saw, jig saw, drill press just because. Tube bender, tube cutter. Good measuring tools, calipers, 360' protractor, multi square. All this can be picked up at Harbor Freight.

MOTOR MOUNT
At work I'm busy for 2 to 3 weeks then dead for a week or 2. During this time is when I take my projects to work. Started this motor mount today and it came out alot better than I thought it would. All I used was angled alumi, hacksaw, screws from work, drill, and a multi square. The trick is to measure, then measure, then check angles, measure......And cut once or drill oncce. Also used a file for edges. And sorry if I haven't mentioned a vise. Every shop needs one.
The mount I had in the first mock-up pic is just a single peice of angle. The new one is official. Its all held by screws but after some more alumi welding practice I will weld the joints, remove screws, and start drilling some holes out of this brick to lighten it. This project could have been easier if I just mounted the engines upright like every other twin set-up but then that would be boring. The V looks cool but requires engines to be mounted higher. This adds weight at the mount and increases Center o' Gravity. The plus is it keeps them apart and brings them closer to the front window for better cooling. Oh,ya...and it looks cool.
Also in pic is Savage 3-speed and some random pipes for the shot

Wow. I really will not be buying all of that and I dont have access so Ill just enjoy watching you build yours. If its more like a 1/5 scale why didnt you go with a weedwacker engine or one made for large scale rc's?

RE: Project Hard-CORR
The whole point of this build is to make it scale. I haven't seen a gasser small enuf that would fit under the hood so to say. Ya...I do have alot of $ tied up in tools. But I work as a mechanic and job requires me to have tools. You'd be suprised what you can get done with a hacksaw and a drill. Especially working with and modifying plastic parts.

Here you go...

The picture I posted is a 100ti, and the link is a 200ti. The 100 was going to go in my truck, but I never did it.
Looking forward to more progress on your project!

HARDCORR gets DUAL BRAKES. Tore my Savage tranny apart just to cut out the brake section. It'll be mounted opposite side of tranny for dual brakes. The angle of the caliper looks good like this and brings the levers in line. I'll be posting the reverse module in the market . The 457's got clutches and 14tp. Ball joints from McMaster-CArr for rear control arms

thiers been a few of us playin with the dual dual brake setup front and rear.
and sofar this is the best one i've seen.
takeing a spare/old case and hacking it up.works better than rods and levers bent to fit.

Well, the thing is, the K&N isn't really a fine enough filter for our little engines. On a full size vehicle, it can pass the kind of garbage that gets through, but our stuff is too small and too tight of a tolerance. It'll run a like a bat outta hades form the air flow, but it'll be much more likely to suck down something nasty.

RE: Project Hard-CORR
Lol O.S. makes 4 cylinder airplane engine which would be nice. I think it's 2 stoke and it's horizontal cylinders instead of the model in-line 1 they make. But thats alot of power. Also Airplane engines run on different fuel and are built for a different purpose, so the XTMs would probobly be better.

RE: Project Hard-CORR
I often wondered about if an airplane motor would be sensetive to jumps and bumps. RC'ing from what I have seen originated with planes, boats, and maybe a handfull of street cars and they used the same engines. As RC's took to the dirt we started seeing purpose built Offroad egines. That must mean the y had problems with the airplane engines and did some re designing.
Now all these 4 strokes are beautiful and sound great, I'd hate to kill one. And for the price of a multi cylinder engine it's not quite worth the risk. But knowing me I may just try it anyway. God I'm stupid.

RE: Project Hard-CORR
majave, I think if I remeber correctly, the reason there are, "airplane" and "Surface/off-road" engines is because airplane engines don't turn at as high of an rpm. think about all the airplane crashes that only require reworking the body of the plane and you just pop the engine back in.

RE: Project Hard-CORR
Well the thing I've always wondered is even in the 2 stoke nitros some engines back in the day where labled as off-road engines. I've always wondered the difference and could only conclude that regular engines couldn't hold up........
Anyways, Hard CORR just got some parts ordered. I originaly had a mad force axle planned for the rear but I'm ordering pieces for an X-Factor axle instead. Also ordered HPI's Baja 5b steering servo, and the sickest exhaust pipes I've ever seen. I'm keeping them on the DL untill I pic them installed so you'll just hafta wait
The rear suspension just got its chassis mounting set-up today. Tomorrow should have the lower arms. I've been kicking a few idea around for the past week and finally got my plan. Thats my excuse for taking so long. No pics to day but tomorrow should bring some good ones.

RE: Project Hard-CORR
Just came out of the garage. This is what I've been up to.....
Front End...Made brachet to accomidate 1/5 scale front shock to savage suspension. Suspension clip is now bolted to chassis using part of the stock vertical chassis.
Rear Axle...X-Factor parts just came in today but I still need to order bearrings. Meanwhile I've been using my crawler axle to come up with these brackets and bracings. Also made bottom control links and tomorrow will bring the tops. Accually going to try a 3 link instead of 4. When it comes time for the drive shaft you will start to see why.
Also in the mail is Baja 5b steering servo, shims for my TigerDrives, sweetest exhaust ever.....and some other stuff I cant remember. All I remember is about $240. Tower said about 2 weeks for Exhaust.....about that time I should have engines installed and ready for break-in.
