RE: Official Traxxas Jato 3.3 Thread
Yeah it's really common on the Jato. If you don't mind spending the money, I really recommend installing the gearset below. The Jato is notorious for tearing up the gears. It's not so much the torque with the stock engine but the high speed passes that cook them. If you put in a more powerful engine then the torque becomes an issue also, but you can run the slipper loose to remedy that. If you do a lot of high speed passes you will keep melting stock gears.

RE: Official Traxxas Jato 3.3 Thread
Hey guys, I've got a question that may or may not pertain to the subject at hand...
I've got the stock 3.3 engine and stock tranny and gears, but I'm having an unidentifiable problem...
about a year ago (I've had my jato put away for quite awhile) I pulled a sick wheely down a driveway and into the street, but only one wheel caught, which caused it to flip. Immediately after flipping, the engine began to redline, but without power going to the wheels. I shut it off, and took it inside as I got to work takin the tranny apart. Easily enough, I found the 1st-gear was stripped all of the way around, and I ordered another. a week later, I replace it and take it out to run, but after I have the engine warm enough and I put a bit of throttle to it, it redlines just like before. (this entire next process happens twice) I take apart the tranny, and look for a stripped gear, but there isn't one to be found.
Another unusual problem that I just work around may be related: it never shifts to second, no matter how much tweaking I do to the centrifugal clutch.
So is this a problem with, perhaps, a damaged tranny housing? or something else entirely.
Thanks
ps: I'll be taking apart the tranny later today to see if I can find anything else.
