Although I agree with you that it was a good performance I wish to point out that Ola Fremming has been 11th at the European Championships before (in 2002), so it is difficult to tell if it this was the best championship ever (for him).

When it comes to the actual contest I am wondering if the internet connectivity in the Brescia, Italy area is broken. I haven't seen any official results (published by the organisers on their web page) since tuesday. Or are we still living in the 20th century?

correct me if I'm wrong ..but this I think is the first time he has to fly unknow (testfligth for judges) I also think it was less competitors 2002

Hi there
I have just updated my WEB-pages with something from the EC, the most interresting part may be the equipment list.

If the results are indicative of things to come it appears to be time to quietly shelve the IC engines-

Dick,
Would you make the same statement about the radios used by looking at the numbers?

It provokes me every time I hear this. The reigning world champion, European champion and not to mention the entire F3A superpower Japan are still glow-powered. The price of a competitive electric power setup makes it unaccessible to all but the most dedicated.

No offence to Dick who said it, but I have a strong wish for another Hanno to appear with a simple Calypso-ish design and win something so that we can end all this nonsense. We've just gotten used to planes looking like beluga whales and now they have more fins than your average sea-creature. I just think it's wrong to give the impression that electrics are a must when newcomers to the sport can't possibly afford it. I've just tallied up an order for a 6S setup in a 50-size plane for winter flying. The plane costs nothing but the electric setup would have gotten me a YS 170 - and that's counting ONE battery into the deal.

Remember... there are only 10 guys in the world that all this means something to. Most of us are just joining in for a laugh, without a hope of ever competing at that level, never mind have a chance of scoring... regardless of what equipment we're using!!!

I mean, even in this forum with 100 million viewers, there are possibly 5 who are in the running, the rest, me included, come on.

I don't actually care what engine or plane or batteries somebody uses. Doesn't effect me.

Does to me.

I don't know whether I agree with Dick, but the writing seems to be on the wall. But at the same time I don't like what it says.

It's turned into another wallet race, like the 80's did, so I too would like to see what Jon as put up. Sadly though I don't think it's gonna happen for a while.

Oh well, I'll keep plodding along doing my thing, designing my own planes, looking for the cheap, unsponsored edge over my competitors, and myself

The big boys can have their plettenbergs, I'll stick with my MVVS.

I regret putting fuel on the glow vs electric fire again. I should have know better [&:] That is way o/t.
But I'm glad the guys in front change their planes every year. It keeps the manufacturers busy producing kits and gives me lots of planes to choose from. Kudoz to Gerhard Mayr who carves his own planes from wood and gets to battle with the best. My hero [8D]

He does? Aww man, that's great, I was starting to think that I'd have to shelve my balsa too!..

Anyone have any more shots of the Osiris? It's a niiiice ship.

There were some detail shots of it at www.f3a.fi if I remember correctly. The thing is huge and has the fattest rudder I have seen. See also the austrian F3A site at http://f3a.prop.at/2008_EM_Italy/2008_F3A_EM_Italy.html

I have read that he had a very slow, calm flyingstyle at 150 metres. Now if he would just start winning over that French guy with all the initials and tiny wing-fin-thingies we'd probably see manufacturers lining up to kit his plane. I'd get one.

BTW Markus Wissinger (GER) also flies homebuilt woodies. And here's Mayr's plane from the previous EC and the Worlds, Daggrom with YS:
