Hitec Digital recommendations
I am in process of putting my 28% Kangke Texas Hurricane together and now have to decide on servos.
I have already ordered HS 5625MG’s for 2x Aileron and 2x elevator and HS 5645MG for the rudder.
My concern is that after reading about the 5625’s locking up in full deflection, I wonder if I have made the right choice in servos.
I have read very good feedback about 5945’s, but they are almost double the price.
So the question is, should I go for the extra cost and piece of mind with 5945’s or can anyone assure me the 5625’s will be reliable.
Thanks
Bill

I went with the 5945's. They were not double the cost. I got them for around $79.95 each from donalds hobbys. They were about $10.00 more than the 5645 when I bought mine.
Just shop around, and you can usually find them on sale somewhere.

RE: Hitec Digital recommendations
Hi Bill,
I have 2 5625's in my 25% Extra. They worked fine for about 6 months or so (20-30 flights) and last weekend a problem showed up.
While doing a range check/ control check, the servos would stop moving at different points. They are on the ailerons (one each) and when wiggling the stick back and forth, either one or both of the servos would stop working.
Long story short, they would only work reliably with NO extensions. If I put any extension longer than 6", the problem would come back. It seems like a voltage problem and I am sending them to Hitec today. I doubt I will trust them, though.
I also have 5925's on my elevators (one per half) and I think one of them did it too, but I only caught it out of the corner of my eye and it only happened (?) that once.

I wish the cost of Digitals here in Ontario was the same as where your from.
The best I can do on 5625/5645 is $75.90 CAD each. I still have to price the 5945, but I'm guessing it will come in around $125.00 CAD.

I am using two 5625's on my Delta Vortex for the elevons. They work great with a 6" extension on each servo lead. I also use a 5 cell battery pack.
Has anyone tried the new 5475-HB servos yet? These servos have 61oz of torque at 4.5v, and 76oz of torque with 6v. They are priced at $34.95 at Servo City.

Will1563,

I don't know what the exchange rate is right now, but the Chiefs price of $79.50 US is the cheapest I can find at the moment.

I have used the 5475HBs and thought they were great! Great servo for the money!

I have 4-5645's and 1 5945 in a u-can-do with well over 100 flights with no problems. I also have 4-5945's 1-5735 and a 1-5475 in 30% edge with 18 flights no problems. According to Mike at Hitec the 56xx series are high torque sport servos. Would I use the 56xx series servo in a giant scale plane I had a ton of money in(NO WAY) but that is just my opinion.

If you are looking for some 5945's, there is a member selling them(new) for $70 in the classifieds. I have bought 11 of them from him over the past month or so. Great guy. I have used both 5645's and 5945's in several planes s/o any issues. Good strong servos, both center very well.

I was just wondering if you were using a PCM reciever b/c it sounds like you are and that you are getting interference b/c those are the exact symptoms you would have. If it is an FM, then you have a weird problem on your hand.

But I still have that doubt in my mind [] and don't want to be saying to myself I wish I had......I wish I had........
So the 5945's are on order now and even at the substantial increase in price, I am sure they are worth it.
Next up is a HFP-10 servo programmer.
Thanks for your input everyone.

RE: Hitec Digital recommendations
JB,
Yup, I was using a PCM receiver.... until I tried a Hitec Electron 6 (FM) I had in another plane . The first thing I thought was failsafe too. I even went as far as programming some goofy control inputs during failsafe just to rule it out.
I wrote a thread about the other things I tried titled "servos stop moving intermittently". It is definitely a goofy problem. I dropped them off at Hitec yesterday.

RE: Hitec Digital recommendations
I found that this happens using extensions. I found that out of 6 HD 24" extensions, that 2 cause intermittant operation with my servos. I had Radio South install 36" extensions.

Additionally the Hitec 5600 series servo has had some problems with the motors I believe. This has been realized full travel to end-point and stalling. In any event this problem has been addressed by Hitec and should no longer be an issue. If you have the older servos I'd suggest you send them in for evaluation if you're concerned. I'd suggest you burn in your electronics including but not limited to the servos, if a problem were to arise it most likely will surface within the first thirty minutes of use.

RE: Hitec Digital recommendations
My question is this. Why have them hold when signal is insufficient. Why not free the surface. This would have saved me a LOT of money.

This has been a problem for many user's. The quality of the connector, wire size, connector type, mis-matched connectors (i.e. different manufacturer's) has contributed. These programmable servos require clean signal and power wiring with minimal resistance set-ups.
