Digital Servos
Been out of the hobby for a few years and decided to get back into it. I'm planning on ordering a Futaba 9C next week and this "digital" servo thing is new to me. Asking around locally I can't get two answers that match for any given question.
The two main questions are: 1. Can you mix digital and the older servos in the same flight pack?
2. I've also heard the digital servos will suck a standard battery pack
dry in no time and I should use a 2200 mah pack with them. If this is the case
what is the advantage of them and are they really that bad on the power bill?

Question 1. Yes
Question 2. Digital servos use more current but not that much more.
I use standard packs on my digital servos but then I just fly two or three 10 minute flights and go home. It just depends on how many flights you want to fly and how long. Check your battery voltage with an ESV and quit when you reach 4.8 v.
You don't have an ESV? Get one.

I agree with the Dirty Bird!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I run a digital Hi-torque rudder servo on several 60 size 3d planes with 1500mah 6 volt nickel metal hydride packs. I get about 4 flights and as soon as the voltage goes below 6 volts. I stop flying. Keep em shiny by using an ESV after every flight. Lithium Ion packs will triple flight times as well. 3DAP

I won't fly until I have checked the flight pack with my ESV. Digital servos can use quite a bit more power though if you really work them hard.
I can only get 3 flights on my Raptor 50 heli with high end digital servos before the 2000mah Ni-Mh pack needs a charge, but I fly it hard.
On some of my planks I use very small batteries to save weight and have to charge them every flight or 2 as a result. Too me it's worth the wait for the charger though.
