RE: OFFICIAL RS4 RTR 3 thread!!!!!!!Also type SS and others
Even with a 36mm flywheel on mine, and the engine as low as it can possibly go (i have just over 1/16 clearance between the chassis and case) i still have yet to find a starterbox that would hit the flywheel on mine.
If you find one that works good id like to know, as the handheld starter i use works, but id like to put it back to use for starting the engines in my boats so i can get rid of the pullstarts.

I use a starter box on mine. I have the stock T15 motor that has the mounts built into the crankcase along with the stock flywheel. The engine still has the rotostart attatched. The box I have is an Ofna True Start universal starter box. the car need to sit forward on the box a bit and then I push the tire of the car right up against the side of the box. this get the starting wheel and the fly wheel to line up perfectly. There is no moddification to the car, the engine or the flywheel needed. At least not for mine. there may be something different to do if your are running a different engine with seperate mounts though. Here is a video of starting the car on the box.

Was that a 132' drag track?
Sorry for the delay in pics....got a couple this evening.
It is missing the muffler, mirrors need installed, tint and cut the windows to look rolled down, and wire up the lights so it's not finished.I also have intercooler piping with couplers and hose clamps that need to go in.
The Terry's Automotive logo is a window cling and removable, just playin around.

I think it was. But I will double check on that. I also found out my cars top speed and I didn't like it.... It was 55mph. Doesn't HPI claim it runs 50 out of the box? I had the 41/45 spur gears with the red and yellow pinion gears. Everything on my car has been changed, I have made it a lot lighter with carbon fiber parts and titanium screws and turnbuckles, even have the 18tz engine. I expected I would be running 65 with this gearing. But I have now installed 39/43 spur gears, but will have to wait a few weeks to get back on the track.

something is definetely wrong there... you should for sure be getting more then 55mph. I ran almost 57mph with my RS4 with modded T3.0 on 23/43 gearing.

Most small block engines will fit with little or no modification, but if you really want to go nuts you can stuff a big block in there as well.
Check out this thread to see what i mean

Going nitro will cost more and more. You can stuff a big block in a rs4 with some new mounts and some mods. I stuffed in a traxxas 3.3 in mine, i was going to do a big block .21 but got a 3.3 for 25 bucks basicly brand new...so i had to use it. If you use anything bigger then a .21 your going to run into tracsion problems because of too much torque. If you want what everyone is using thats running some of the fastest on road touring cars, get the picco p3 evo. And have it modded. Everyone has seem to have very good luck withit.....only downside, is your goingt to pay for it..i beleieve its going for 300 new...then another 100 or so to mod it.
Good luck with the build..

what motor mounts did you use to get it to fit and can you give a part number

21 is actually pretty easy to swap in. You just gotta get a little creative with the pipe.

I made my own just using 4 threaded aluminum spacers...can be got at ace hardware. I planned to use OFNA CD3 mounts, but after i set it up with these i found no reason to change em. Only downside is with as long as the bigblock is, was only able to use 3 screws to hold it to the chassis.

Those threaded spacers are a great idea. I have done several big block conversions to different 1/10 cars and the hardest part is trying to find motor mounts that work. that will make swaps so much easier from now on for me!
BTW: how is the cooling on the engine with the shortened head?

heat isnt much of a problem...with the tiny tank these things have, and the modded 21, it doesnt run long enough to even try to overheat unless you run it way too lean.
