Hi
No dumb question's here,There's alway's someone willing to help.
To build the boat out of the box you need a 2 channel radio, you can get one for under a hundred dollar's and they usually come with a couple of servo's so you can use one of those for the rudder.
The instruction's say you can use a standard servo for the sail's but it would be marginal at best 40 inch/oz of torque as opposed to some thing like 160-180 for an S3802, I don't have the spec's handy so that's a guess.
You will also need a 4.8 or 6.0 volt battery pack for the reciever.
The joint where the keel bulb goes together should be reinforced, and the radio box is a real weak point but if you read this thread from start to finish you'll get a lot of good idea's and pointers and don't be afraid to ask question's.

Hi dr2
Sounds like you've got a handle on building your boat. And bobslr is right, there are lots of ideas and pictures here to help you. If you have a question feel free to email any one of us and we'll get back to you with an answer as soon as we can. Have fun building her and sailing her.

Hi Fishy
Looking good. The boat looks nice and clean. Ready for repainting. Glade the servo and battery trays are in. Sounds like you have it about done. Know about the trouble uploading pics here. Thats why I link mine instead. Keep the pictures coming, cant wait to see your pics of it sailing again.

Hi all. I have had my Northwind 36-600 kit for about two years. On the shelf, of course. Anyone who has built one before interested in earning some extra money assembling this kit for me?

RE: Northwind 36
hi guys i just bought a north wind 2 days ago and finally Ive finished building it
i had a fun time building it (Neely cut my finger off, stuff like that)
I started sailing on a 1:1 scale minnow, which is a tub boat with one main
sail. than i went on to a flying ant which I'm sailing on now.
so i know heps about winds and all the names of stuff on boats, but i cant wait
to take my north wind out tomorrow.
are there any tips or thing i should be caution of?
thanks heps

RE: Northwind 36
Maybe a small tip...
The pics don't show much detail, but I'd recommend you have an experienced modelsailor look at your rigging, before making your maiden trip.
Regards, Jan.

RE: Northwind 36
Hi
dbrownesq: I'm sure someone snow bound in their cabin in Minnesota or Michigan would love to build it for you. I've built two already, but in the middle of building other boats right now.
Agent Midget: It looks good to me. But building it in two days seems pretty fast to me. I know its summer there in Australia and bet winds are favorable. But make sure the glues and epoxies are dry. There is a problem with the hatch not being water tight. So be careful driving the boat down wind that the bow doesn't submerge and you flood you boat. If you are doing very strong winds the boom ring and post can be wrenched away from the deck. The servo box is really a night mare. It will probably break away from the mountings in strong winds. Be careful that your keel bulb doesn't break away and sink to the bottom before you have reinforced it.
It sounds like this model has problems. Sure, but they can be over com-ed and she'll fly when she catches the wind. Others will watch from the shore and complement you on the boat. Its a great boat and you will have lots of fun with it.

RE: Northwind 36
ok finally sorry about the late reply stupid camera on my phone stuffed up[:@]
all right i made the jib higher as you said and ive all so got a longer boom on the jib
so it stretches the jib out a bit more, becuase i took it for a sail to day and i notices it was really
nose diving and leaning over heps.
oh and i got a winch servo as the one that i had in it didn't let the main and the jib out far
enough, any off you guys had or have the same problem? [&:]

but as i said I'm getting a winch servo because the servo doesnt let out and pull in the sail enough
so i guess ill have to build a new radio box

RE: Northwind 36
i was able to fit a futaba 3002 sail winch in the original servo box, how ever some extra strenth would have had to been added, so finally after many head aches, i ripped that sucker out! i build the same servo tray that u see in pics throughout this thread.. good luck

RE: Northwind 36
well they definately dont turn 360 degrees because that would never work and would be pointless... im not sure the degrees that they move but the specs in the description f them will tell you...
mr. wolf was very generous and sent me several pics of his tray and also sent a printout of the pieces he used, so all i have to do was get the basswood, trace, and cut!

RE: Northwind 36
u could get that one, but if you wanted to go a little cheaper, you could use the 3801 or 3802 sail winches that your could apply with the same set up that is seen in this thread... good luck
