This was a fun piece to do, took a while to find the parts though.
Turns out a PVC drain fitting is just the right diameter.
Some drilling, cutting and paint and it was ready for the aluminum tape to finish it off.

Now it starts going together.
All those strange parts will make sence soon.
The stiff wire is needed to support the weight of the machine gun and lock the gun ring in place.
It reaches below the floor line to a hardwood rail.
I'm not loosing that gun, It took too long to make.
One set screw locks the gun and ring in place .
Makeing it easy to remove If I want to fly with the canopy closed.

Do you think the crew seats looks too simplistic?
Me too because they are just blocks of foam but they have a feature that allows me to remove the crew.
Rare Earth magnets, four per seat.
They really hold they guys in firmly.
This is a view of the gunners backside.

I ran into a small problem with the crew.
The pilot was fine almost made for this plane.
However the gunner is another story.
Most modelers have their gunners alert and ready for action.
Every photo I have seen has the guy in the back just "chillin".
I understand that nobody has a camera in their hand when they are being attacked. but I wanted something different.
I ordered my guys from Real Pilots and when they arrived I went straight to test fitting.
I cut the gunners arm off and reattached it so it looked like he was sitting in a hot tub.
I carved out a pair of binoculars and put it in his hand since it was molded to hold something.

Now my Friend Doug Cohen knew the work I had put into this model and when he seen the detail the pilots have he offered to paint them for me.
Doug is a true world class modeler.
You may not know the name here because he competes in Diorama competitions.
The last one he went to was in Paris and he came home with second place.
Doug has completed a book that covers how to paint figures and it will be available this Christmas.
I'll post a link to it when it is released.
The guys came out GREAT!
I'm very proud of my friend.

After only a few flights in primer I took the Dauntless to a Big bird event here in town.
With a Fresh paint job and crew I went for it.
I shifted the CG back 1 1/2 inch back from the CG marked on the plans.
This brings the CG to 27% MAC.
No up nose trim was needed for flight and the flare at landing was totally controllable.
I have a good warbird now.
So far I have only this flight photo to show you guys.
Thanks to Glenn for sending it to me.

i have been building a cap dauntless from plans , its been a 10 year challenge , it getting close to beeing
done , the plane has so many curves and scale points , the leading edge of the wing has that long taper from the center section
, the design was way ahead of its time. yours looks great , keep up the good work. ITS a cool plane, the winner of MIDWAY.
