Thanks Doug. Not my welds, a high school friend did the welding ..... I have to agree, it is a nice job. And you know with that green stripe on the rudder it entitles the pilot to one Irish coffee before the first sortie of each day. WOOO HOOOO!

Its always nice to hear good news - life can get a bit tedious sometimes. Tell your better half I said hey.

Wow Art, I'm impressed. You going to have it ready for DPR this year? I was hoping to make it but am not sure at this time.

Don't be - right now it is just big ..... and not finished either. Yes, my plan is to have it flying this season and ready for Dayton with all the bugs worked out.
Hope your schedule works out so you can attend. It'll be nice to visit with you again.
Cheers,
Art

Art, most magnificent progress. Now you will be like a jack rabbit and sprint to the finish.

I made the Southern DP, SDP, and had a great time. John Mueller and Romeo and all were great hosts.
look out all you Allied blokes as Rod from Florida helped me learn the finer points of D-VIII flying.

Can you provide dates yet for Dawn Patrols? We have set the date for Mid-Atllantic Dawn Patrol (MAD)

ODP. July
Hoosier
Long Island Aug
Rheinbeck. Sep
Dayton
MAD 11-16 Oct
SDP. Dec

Mike
I have not yet made a schedule for my 2016 flying adventures.
I am not sure of the dates for the Hoosier or the Ohio Dawn Patrols.
If someone for sure knows the dates please chime in and let us know.

Steve & Lee Thank you.

Mike, send me a pic of your "cot in the shop" set up - then maybe I will consider that addition for my shop

Well my cot in the shop idea was a bust. For some reason my wife still wants her car in the garage.
I went flying today, January 31 and 70 degrees Virginia Beach.

Lee thanks for the other dates. Makes planning easier.

SDP is usually the first fri/sat in December at Mac Hodges place, just north of Americus GA. I would pencil in 2,3 Dec for now.

I was wondering if anyone knows the actual size of full scale turnbuckles used back in the early days. I know all WWI planes did not use them. Im just looking for a size reference.

Hi Wild Bill

Is BUSA finally getting into the half scale arena?

Be advised that Radfordc's drawing (thanks Rad) is only one manufacturer. For instance Fokker turnbuckles differed from Sopwith's turnbuckles and theirs differed from Nieuport's and so on......some barrels are round and some have flats on them,. So you need to do a little research if it is for a scale project to determine the proper cross section as well as length.

Billy cant wait to see the D7. Dont ya think if Im looking for turnbuckles Ive decided on what plane Im going to build. Better yet if Im looking for rigging the plane may be already built. LOL the suspence grows even more. Sorry Art not trying to highjack your thread. I figured I could get info on turnbuckles from the experts.

Hey Bill
Don't worry about busting in on this thread - it is some what dormant right now anyway.
I have become distracted and am working on a 1/3 Fokker DVII.
Cheers,
Art

B&B Aircraft Supply is the best place to buy aircraft turnbuckles. http://www.bandbaircraftsupplies.com/

The smallest size has a 2 1/4" long barrel and uses 6-40 threaded ends. Less than $20 for the barrel and two ends.

Art,
I need a Turtle Report as going through withdrawals.

I'm just back from 2 weeks in Hawaii for work with Office of Naval Research and new technologies on our ships. Time to enjoy the hobby again.
