RE: Best scale photo!
Guys, you are posting some AWESOME stuff! GREAT WORK!
I just want to post the requirements for no other reason then to try to keep the thread going on track, it's looking great.
The photos should be the following...
A) The aircraft modeled must be that of an actual aircraft.
B) The model should be a "SCALE" model.
meaning...
It should look like the aircraft that is being modeled. If the real plane had strut and wheel covers... so should the model(it should'nt have music wire struts). There should be no rx antennas showing in the photo. If the real plane had a 3 or 4 blade prop, and this is a picture of that plane(model) on the ground? Then the model should have a 3 or 4 blade prop, not a Zinger 20x10. etc...etc.
Think of this as a kind of "Top Gun" of photo threads.
And finally, that brings us to the most confusing of the requirements of the photo.
...C) The photo should be "of an angle that you would actually be looking at the aircraft" or "as the eye perceives it".
...meaning...Don't post the picture of that beautiful Mustang with a guy holding it during engine run ups.
C1) "Out of scale" or "detail" pictures are fine as long as they are posted along with "their" "Best Scale Photo".
Thanks to all for participating...it's going great.

RE: Best scale photo!
Now you definitely have to look twice. What I like about this shot is, that there is so much going on in the picture. Most pics that are posted here have the aiplane and some runway, grass, may be trees in the background. Or even only blue sky that that is not really a challenge. But here: people and so on. Well, if you look long engough you start wondering what the matter is... But hey, really great shot I find.
Cheers Martin
PS: and I love the airplane. My Proctor Dv is sitting in the workshop, lower wing and fuse grit done, dummy engine done... Waiting to be completed. Got it 5 yrs ago. Oh well...

Hey Martin,
Thanks for the kind words. One thing that I have learned since that shot is that when taking a scale picture from a ground level, it will often help the realism if the wheels are propped up on small blocks to get the LG out of the not-to-scale grass.

Dewey Davenport on taxi with his 1/7 scale F-18 Hornet.
I’m a bit too high with the camera; I would have preferred a lower shot.
I wish there was more heat signature in the rear, but you gotta take what you can get.
Otherwise…

One hundred pages is quite a milestone. Thanks go to “Mustang 51†for getting it going and all the modelers who have shared their photos.
On the left is Dave Johnson with his scratch built 1/3 scale Albatros DVa. Dave finished second in the Masters Class (scratch building) at Top Gun 07.
The right has Pudit Supawatanakul (that’s his name) on taxi with his 1/6 scale Panther F9F-2. Pudit is from Thailand I believe.

Had to get in on some of this 100th page action. Congrats on one of the most fun and interesting threads both here at RCU and on the entire world wide web!

RE: Best scale photo!
The gear on that Hornet is unbelievable and the photos really have me stumped as to full scale or model. Very impressive.
Can you explain what your landing gear detail project is all about?
Thanks.

Customers send me their stock landing gear for the big 1:7 scale Yellow Twin F/A-18, and a year or two later (or even longer...sorry to the current guys waiting patiently), and after a lot of money has changed hands, I return them completely made over with lots of resincast parts, PPG paint, placards, etc. added. I have attached some before and after images to give you a feel of the size and scope of the detail. I do a pretty cool canopy detail kit for the YA Twin also. A search in the jet section should yield some good info on that.
Thanks for the nice compliments Phil.

[sm=omg_smile.gif]Don't tell anyone they're not real and no one would ever know! Those look like they came right out of the manufacturers crate (that's the only time I've ever seen gear that clean). Fantastic work! You are a Master.[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

RE: Best scale photo!
Hello Paul,
that is the kind of gear that makes me think: "I am going to order a set. I am going to find the money and time. I am going to find the model. I am going to start on jets. I am going to get the building and flying skills to be able to create and operate the F18. I am going to quit my job and model full time. Whatever it takes, I want that landing gear!!!! "
No, no, keep your order book close, as of now they are thoughts and daydreams....
Unbelievable work, Paul!
Cheers, Martin
