Having just returned to plastic modelling after a 45+yr break, I have decided to jump in at the deep end.
As a child I was always impressed by German E-Boats, they always looked so powerful and menacing compared with other nations MTB's.

Back in the 50-60's when I built Airfix model planes out of plastic bags bought from woolworths, we didn't have Etched parts, after market accessories, airbrushes, acrylic paints, cyano, internet or internet forums, so all this is new to me.

It is my intention to motorise with 3x400 can motors, R/C, Lu'erson Effekt steering, 32mm scale brass props etc..
This model isn't meant to represent any particular Boote, rather my interpretation of a heavily worked machine, warts and all.

With 600+ parts to the basic kit,I have added several Eduard etched accessory kits, an AFV Quad Flakvierling (123 parts) dinghies,crew,supplies etc this is going to be a long build.
I don't have any particular build sequence, I work on whatever area takes my fancy at any particular moment so as not wanting to get bored with the many repetative fittings etc..
I started this in November 2011, but because of many personal commitments it is a very on-off build. Howeveriwill get there in theend.

What are you using to power this. I know the 3-400 motor's. Esc and batteries?

Having carried out multiple amputations of several afv figure kits, just waiting for the wounds to heal before painting.
Instead of the usual scenario of behind guns, on the bridge etc., I wanted to diversify!

I want to know what electronic speed control's and batteries you are using. And how many of each?

The electronics side of things will be a system produced by a company called 'Action Electronics' over here in the UK.
It provides for provision to accelerate on the centre motor, and for the two outer motors to cut in when the boat has reached a cerain speed.
The outer motors are not used in reverse but the appropriate outer motor will opperate in conjunction with the rudders.
This company supply complete or part kits specifically for individual types of boat to order.
If you google Action you can see what they supply.
Power is supplied from a 3800 nihm

Great start to a beautifull Boat. Hope you continue to share as I also have the Italeri S boat and looking for help on the RC side of construction as well as how you plan to access the RC gear and how to hold the removable parts on. Thanks again and looking forward to more build photos.

Her'es some pics of the way I have made removeable access hatches etc.
The main deckI have made to be slid on from the stern and screwed down as per kit instructions. This is if In need to do any major work (at home)
For poolside work I have cut out the rear depth charge rail area to access the rudder servo's.
For battery and motor access I have made the centre deck area removeable, held in place with micro magnets.
The froward deck area and armoured bridge comes off as a complete unit, held down with the kitscrews as per instructions.

I have tried to upload the pics on here but keep getting an internal network error message, I'll log off and try againlater!

It helps me wind down at the end of the day, you can't be angry/agitated/upset etc.. when working on minute fiddly bits and pieces!

Just some of the modifications to convert AFV figures into crew members.
I had to remove boots and get rid of uniform jackets etc, to produce shoes and overalls as I have seen in many photo's of what was worn when In port.

I will be getting my keys back to my modelling cupboard in a couple of weeks. I have almost finished the work on our apartment so it has been deemed that I deserve them!

I have been allowed to access my modelling cupboard by HWMBO now that the nights are drawing in again, as I have just about completed all she wanted me to do around the house.
This is my latest contribution to the build, sorting out the rudder linkages so I could incorporate the 'Lurssen Efekt' . This was quite challenging, but after making a plasticard mock up I think I have succeeded.
I needed to know the angles and lengths of the linkages prior to cutting/gluing etc., as I wanted to construct a removable module as with the motors.

I see now that you are the one to watch, to emulate, especially as you are building to a very high degree of precision. I've finally seen a built up version of this kit in a shop and I was floored at how big it really is. Not sure I can tear myself away from the huge backlog of other plastic model conversions I have to do but this will be one of those things to strive for.

I see you have a large crew in the making but it looks like they are set up for dockside work only or loading up for the next mission. Don't turn it into a display model! They need to be mainly posed in the pilothouse and at "battle stations", right?
