Fire Monitor Pumps
Will a 12V windshield washer pump work well on 7.2V-8.4V? I'm converting a HenLong/Dickie TUG and want to replace that dreadful oscillating thing it comes with for the mast mounted fire monitor. Before I go crawling through the junkyard maybe someone else has already done the leg work.

The junk yard ones will work at a lower voltage with some reduced capacity. Sometimes you can find universal replacements at the auto parts store for about the same price.

crashnburned,
VW also used the air in the spare tire to power the washers. You over filled the spare to start with and used the air down to the normal presure. Thought that was a really 'neat' idea in 1970. Now, I wonder why. Guess you could tow a VW spare tire around and forget about the electrical pump. Another one of those "I wonder why?" things...

I've been seeing folks use electric fuel pumps for model airplane fuel transfer- small, less amp-hungry, and still can throw a nice stream.

We have some of the guys using a older Honda replacement windshield washer pump, not OEM. The tug that it is on shoots about a 20ft to 30ft stream. The trick is have good inlet hose size and then play with the size of the tube on your outlet end, don't over restict for distance since to small outlet won't make a visible stram. You might get more imfo from Hugh at [email protected]. His is on a the large Shelly Foss

Times they are a'changing Department:
I did a little research in to Bird Flu and how it might someday affect us model boaters. What I learned is that there are plenty of nasties in the water already, even without avian flu being here (yet)... E.coli and Salmonella top the list, but there are others. It's worst at public parks that are over-run with ducks & geese.
But as the Public becomes more sensitized to the possibility of Bad Stuff in the water, modelers with fire monitors might want to think twice about one of our favorite old tricks, hosing down the kids on the shore with pond water.
