Differences between T34/76 and T34/85?
Hey guys, how's it going? I'm pining away up here in southern NY, waving sadly as all the NEAD tankers head off to Danville to battle for supremacy on the indoor field at the Tank Museum Extravaganza. So wish Icould go! But It HAS left me inspired to get to work on a conversion to get ready for this summer, and Ineed some help. Here's the deal. I got my hands on a Trumpeter static T-34/76 kit (%75 built) and a WSN T-34/85 RC tank. Ilooked at them closely and it confirmed what Ithought-They're almos tthe same molds, and WSN is Trumpeter's RC arm. Now, Ihad planned on dropping the top from the 76 onto the running gear for the 85 (rewired to run as an HL-I have a conversion kit from Phil)with the appropriate modification to make the turret rotate, etc. Then Igot to wondering, what's keeping me from just doing a turret swap instead? It'd be easier...
So my questionfor the forumis this: What are the cosmetic or visual differences between the 76 and the 85? The turret is obvious, but what are the other important ones? Ithink the fuel drums on the 85 need to go, and the square tanks from the 76 need to get grafted on, but are the grab handles different? What about gear stowage, or filler ports, or vents, etc. Any help with this issue would be appreciated, because Idon't want to miss anything important while I'm drawing up my plans. Thanks guys, and Ilook forward to the summer campaigning season!

Oh, and Ithink Isee differences between the rear armored plates. Is this significant, or could it be "fudged" as just being a production run from another plant or something?

The differance between the 2 T-34is T-34/76 is a 76mm short barrel gun small turret and the T-34/85 is a 85mm long barrel gun big turret.
And that the shell of it

the fuel drums need to go, the early models had the square tanks at the rear. Your options for an early version are the Modellino kit (M1942 version with the small 2 man turret) or buying a Trumpeter kit and making it fit the RC model (M1942 and M1943 versions available for $$$)

Ok, so basically there isn't a significant difference on the chassis/body between the two tanks? Like, the 85 didn't get certain upgrades or changes when it was put into production? And the 76 did use the round fuel drums? Though not at the same time as the square ones on the back, Iimagine...

Ah, missed your post by THATmuch! Ok, Ithought that was true for the fuel drums, but Inotice the handrails are different. Is that significant, an indicator of age or model? I'm just wondering if Ican get away with swapping the turret of my Trumpeter kit and call it a day, or if Ireally need to change out the whole upper body-which I'd prefer not to, but would for accuracy.

Must admit I hadn't noticed hand rail differences, tho the early versions do have rounded front fenders (the Modellino kit also includes a set)

I agree that to use the T-34/85 as your base model you would need to not use the fuel barrels. I'm pretty sure the 34/85 all had them though. I missed the point of the original post.
Other than the turret and maybe the road wheels that looks like thats all you may need to change. Even the roadwheels may be ok, i'll have to look through some more of my books.
