Thanks to all for the feedback on my project. It still needs a few more things ---- pioneer tools, periscope lenses and the 20mm cannon to mention a few. I also want to employ some mechanical technology on this tank. At this point all of the hatch covers are not hinged yet. I want to hinge them to allow for dual digital operation. With a dual digital system I can use digits on my left and/or right hand to open and close the hatches.

I can't think of anything else to do before with this before painting so I guess it's off to the paint shop. I may call this tank the "Duck Hunter", or maybe the "Buzzard Blaster"

.

Hey Rex! If you ever want to 'sell this', please let me have first crack at it. I am a HUGE fan of the MBT and would be honored to have it.

BTW... extremely nice work on her!

That tank was canceled because it was too expensive at 1.7 million???? The Abrams cost 4.3 million each and there are 9000. Go figure ......

Yep, that's inflation for ya. By the time the M1 was dreamt up, the MBT 70 would have been more like 20 mil a copy.

Re the video above, watch 'Failed Tanks! Chapter 7 - the MBT 70" afterwards - has some interesting insights.

~~~~~~~
That "Failed tanks " series is great. I saw one episode once, but not about the MBT 70. Thanks ..... ya made my day ..... maybe my week ..... I'll be watching a lot more of those episodes this weekend. Of all of the reference sites I found on the MBT 70, not once did it occur to me that the name number 70 in the designation stood for the year 1970. Duh.
The info on that video was very interesting to me and the music was a real toe tapper. I definitely got happy feet and discovered I can tap dance pretty good while sitting in a chair. I almost had as much trouble building my model as they did building the real one.
I love this forum. The postings and replies to everyone about everything are very interesting, instructive, and just plain fun.
Thanks
rex
Makes me wonder what the difference might be between $1.7 mil in 1970 and $4.3 now. You know, don't they say "in today's dollars"?
This build was incredible, Rex, and I can't wait to see it painted. The stuff you did with the driver's turret just boggles my mind. Wow. If I ever get to be even a quarter of the scratchbuilder you are I'll be way more than happy.
Hey Rex, did your ZTZ-99 come with the external fuel tanks for the rear? Have you made any decisions on what you might do with that? Still planning a British Tank?
Yes it did, much to my surprise. The fuel tanks are installed on the tank. The conversion parts to make it a ZTZ 99A will be attempted after I finish the MBT 70. I'm still planning to do a number of British and French tanks.
