Hi Have spent 9 months to get to this stage , Now I have it working (still a couple of small things to sort) can try and make it look like it should ,had to change quite a bit to make it work. so please don't count the rivets it not accurate . Have built it to use at club meetings ,will take a 20lb tank without bending.

That is so friggin awesome.
Ok tell us how you made the bridge move on its own as it opened.

I always wondered how the real ones did that.

Hi Guys here are a couple of photos will post more later.

Built the Bridge layer using a Tamiya Pershing Hull Haven't done any major changes to the Hull. Chris3 is doing a Centurion Hull Hope to change it over to the Centurion lower in the future (so can reuse the Pershing hull to do another model).Have based it on the M48 Bridge layer which is very similar to the Pershing hull

How did you engineer the bridge movement and is it prototypical?
That is absolutly awesome work.

Hi The mechanic's of the bridge are driven by electric ram actuators, One to open the bridge one to lift the bridge to vertical and one to lay the bridge down . Need escs for each ram plus the two needed to drive the tank so Five full channels needed to operate the bridge. Here are some photos of how to make the Rams . These are not used on this bridge layer ,but are very similar to the ones I used.

Hi Its a standard Tamiya Pershing hull with the bridge layer is 11lbs the bridge weighs just over 4 lbs. Its fitted with Sherman DMD/MF units plus 2 extra Escs ,at the moment it only has a speaker connected to the MF unit . Have had a 20 lb tank sitting on the bridge and it dosnt bend , its very strong . will weigh a little more by the time its finished but don't think it will more than 12lb for tank and 5lb for bridge

I am very impressed with your modeling and engineering skills. I never thought what you have produced as a working model was possible.

I couldn't have come up with something that even looked that good if it was just a lump of static styrene. Nine months?, I get bored silly after just nine days on a project. You have my respect and admiration.

Hi There is another working model of a M48 its on youtube, mine is now way as good as the one on youtube , I saw it and thought it was the dogs dangles so start to plan how to build one , first off bought a 1/35 scale model , built the bridge as close as possible to the model ( the M48 had two sizes of bridge I went for the long one) because it made it easy to fold because the ram has to be a certain length to fold . First stage was to make the bridge fold , next stage was to make the lifting arm ,fixed it to the bench and made it lift the bridge to vertical and also fold the bridge at the same time. Next stage was the hardest to do mount it on the tank, this was quite difficult had to work out where the pivot points needed to be bolt on to the tank and re-enforce the mountings , The whole bridge layer is only held on to the tank with 4 x 2 mm bolts . The main lifting ram which is fixed to the tank is on a brass plate which is held on to the tank just like the Tamiya Turret .The only mod to the lower hull was to put extra springs in the rear shock absorbers .
