Hi There is another working model of a M48 its on youtube, mine is now way as good as the one on youtube , I saw it and thought it was the dogs dangles so start to plan how to build one , first off bought a 1/35 scale model , built the bridge as close as possible to the model ( the M48 had two sizes of bridge I went for the long one) because it made it easy to fold because the ram has to be a certain length to fold . First stage was to make the bridge fold , next stage was to make the lifting arm ,fixed it to the bench and made it lift the bridge to vertical and also fold the bridge at the same time. Next stage was the hardest to do mount it on the tank, this was quite difficult had to work out where the pivot points needed to be bolt on to the tank and re-enforce the mountings , The whole bridge layer is only held on to the tank with 4 x 2 mm bolts . The main lifting ram which is fixed to the tank is on a brass plate which is held on to the tank just like the Tamiya Turret .The only mod to the lower hull was to put extra springs in the rear shock absorbers .
