Default Metal Headlight

Has anyone taken one of these apart. I can't tell if it's glued or soldered.

I would guess that is probably glued shut. On the factory side of things that would be much more cost effective than soldering. Taigen's are glued, but this doesn't look like one of ours. Who makes these?

I thought they were yours Erik. They've been lying around for over a year. Could be an order I made for these and a column light from rctank.de however. I'm too old to remember.

Joe I've done a bunch of those. They're glued. A little "uncure" will soften it up in about four or five minutes and then a #10 blade will pry it right off. I always open those up and put in the 3mm warm white LEDs.

Thanks Gary, a little "uncure" and a blade it will be then. Thank you.

One of them will be. I am going to open one up, remove the LED, drill a hole in the rear of the light for a fiber optic. I have a Tamiya light kit I'm going to use in the Jagdpanzer.

If you go to ----
www.axels-modellbau-shop.de
they are selling a pair of Headlights for a Tiger 1 for Euro 9.95 made by "Schumo Kits" the product number is T10019WM, They consist of the Lamp Body with mount, the separate lens and the mounting nuts all you have to do is put in an LED.

Shaun brings up an interesting question. The photos of the Tamiya kit show a headlight similar to that used on the Tiger series, but the headlights you have, Joe, are the ones I've always seen used for Panzer 3 and 4 tanks. If the Tiger headlight is correct I might have one for you, Joe, and of course Erik has those for $3.19 a pair.

So now I have to know. Time to research.

Thanks Shaun. I've never looked at that particular site. I have used Welsh Dragon and of course Dominique from rctank.de. I will give axels site a look.

Yes, they do differ Gary. The plastic light that came with the kit has the rounded lens cover. Thanks for pointing that out.

OK, I found this photo, which appears to match the lights at Imex for $3 a pair.

I'll check to see if I have a spare. If you're not concerned with accuracy I might use the light from the King Tiger, just because the base looks cooler, but you'd have to modify the base to fit. I used lights similar to what you have for my Panzer 3s and 4s, and the Stug, but I used the Tiger One style on my Jagdpanther and eventually the Panther G.

Damn, Joe, this must be your lucky day. Not only do I have a spare of the Tiger one style like in the photo above, I already installed the 3mm warm white LED.

Ya want it?

You'll probably have to PM your address, and I'm sure I can pop it in a little padded envelope and send it for a couple stamps.

Thanks for the photo. Yep, that's the one I have also, in metal. I used the photo of the "flat front light" just for the photo because they were handy. I figured that they all come apart the same way. Thanks for your offer Gary but I'm OK.

OK, as long as you have it covered, Bro.

But, I already made the video so it might help provide info.

You can find anything you want from Schumo, HennTec, Atak, ETO transmissions and other odds and ends here, stocked in Maryland, since 2003.

Thanks for the video Gary. I'm going to have to figure something out, like what is the voltage coming from the Tamiya unit so I don't blow any bulbs. A job for Monday.

If it's a Bosch type head light you are looking to simulate it should look like this original.

And that is exactly the "SCHUMO" headlight that www.axels-modellbau-shop.de
are selling.

Joe, Do make sure you remind AXELS that as a Resident of the USA you are not liable for VAT (Value Added Tax),
Some EU Dealers include it automatically unless you tell them, and at 19% on top of the cost of the product it could cover the postal charges alone !
Shaun.

The Schumo headlight is bored for the bulb and wiring. Tiger 1 system comes with two lamps but no longer in nickel silver. That set does have a threaded stud and nut for attaching to the tank. The P4 unit is a single light, nickel silver, and is bored for the light bulb. No threaded stud or nut. Schumo is out of the P4 light, I have them in stock. Schumo and I both have the Tiger 1 lights, mine in nickel silver, theirs in a different metal, the 'new' version.

Schumo has also been around long enough to understand VAT and who to collect from and who not.
