[QUOTE=ChuckATruck;12374248]Rex- you could probably lower the motor and tranny to help your drive shaft angle. Maybe go rigid suspension and yoke to yoke. If you had to.
~~~~~~~~
HEY !!!! ---- Good idea -----that will work !!!! The offset between the tranny and differential cancels out really well and it will still have an acceptable ground clearance.
Help! I have decided to build a Quad FAT with a limber and 25 pounder on one of my bobbed deuce models. The Quad body will be a fun project. The ammunition limber is not a problem. But scratch building the 25 pounder is giving me a brain cramp. Is there a 1/16 kit or built model of a 25 pounder available anywhere? Is there any other kind of artillery piece that is available that could be to converted to look like a 25 pounder? If not, I guess I could always build a skeleton artillery frame covered by a huge tarp so that only the wheels would be visible.
Rex, I know of none. Maybe falling back the Tamiya kit for reference and scaling up.....? Also, it seems the Morris Quad Tractor was also sometimes fitted with radios and used for communications - if you want to take it in a different direction. Either way, it will be great to see your efforts
Best Wishes,
In order to check out whether building a Quad FAT with limber and 25 pdr artillery piece is something I really want to do, I got some drawings enlarged to 1/16 scale and here are some crude photos of what might be done using the bobbed deuce as the r/c frame. This rig would be 30.5 in long and the Quad body shell would fit well enough to make me happy, so I think I shall talk myself into this project. I think the 25 pounder is going to be the late war Mark 22 model which had welded parts instead of riveted parts.
Hi Rex
the 25 pounder is going to be the late war Mark 22 model which had welded parts instead of riveted parts - What? Depriving yourself of the opportunity to count rivets???
These might be of some assistance - Quad - Morris Quad - Armortek -
25 pounder detail - Armorpax's 25 Pounder - Armortek
Rex,
Why not make a 17 pounder instead of the 25? I suggest this because you could leverage the Firefly barrel and even the aftermarket ammo boxes.
Just a thought,
Springman
ps - Eitherway, i look forward to your updates on this build!
OMG !!!! The close up photos of the details for the 25 pounder are incredible. When I saw the rivets on that critter I almost had a brain hemorrhage and went into a coma. Good grief ----- I'm not sure I would live long enough to do that rivet pattern, or maybe end up in a rubber room in an asylum. However, I really appreciate your reference suggestion. I'm not sure I would be happy with a welded frame, but I don't think I have the patience and stubborn dedication to do RIVETS !!!!!
Thanks!
Up until now I haven't considered the 17 pounder because I thought the circular plate under the 25 pdr. frame was a neat idea for easy rotation on sandy or soft surfaces. As a result of Mals' reply and your suggestion, I found the Armortek website for their 17 pdr. detail photos. I gotta make a choice (but because I am lazy) the 17pdr. looks like an easier project for me.
Dumb question, but isn't the armortek kit 1/6 scale?
Just using the photos for reference, maybe?
The photo of the kit components is an excellent start, and I bet with your skills you could almost use that for a blueprint!
Crius --- Yeah, they are 1/6 scale, but if I ever win the lottery for a jillion dollars I'm gonna buy everything they make. But I gotta be happy with 1/16 scale for now. The detail photos of their models are priceless reference goodies.
Question for everybody who bought this bobbed deuce --- Did you get an email from Google that asked you to rate your shopping experience with Banggood? I'm glad I finally got it, but I wasn't happy that I had to pay the extra $17.13 shipping ransom. I don't know whether to rate their performance or just let it go.
Given that I'm currently getting spammed with their adds every time I log into Gmail, I'm inclined to suggest that you let them have it with both barrels...
but that's just me
Whoa... lots of great ideas here! I just took mine for a shakedown run. Pretty quiet for a $40 truck but the steering servo is screamin'!
Anyone else? I need to get a few for my CROSS 6X6 anyway so what's one more.
There's a guy at RCTW that's already put two together to make a 10 wheeler, and he's even sourced dual wheel rear tires and rims!
He spliced the back part of the frame and added the second axle, taking the yoke from the front axle on truck two to get pass through drive shafts in the rear. I think he's still working on that as it looks as though the second axle doesn't have a shaft connected. The tires and rims are from a place in Germany but I'm not sure they ship to the US!! I might have to call on one of my Brit buds for help but then I'd get about 20, enough for two ten wheel trucks. I'm thinking I should order about a half dozen more before the price goes up any more.
Just out of curiosity, what is the mounting config for the tires and the size? Is it a 12mm hex?
I have a question: WIth the obvious popularity of this 1/16 scale 4x4 truck and the highly probably success of its 6x6 brother, why is there not more companies offering us soft-sides and half-tracks.......
I too, would like to know this. I plan to rip the guts out of mine, and put them in a Bruder with a set of Tamiya tandem axles.
