Default Heng Long stickers

OK, maybe some of you know this but I discovered something today about the "stickers" in Heng Long tanks that I never knew before. Usually I just throw them away, because I thought they were just stickers. Today I find out they are dry transfers. This means you stick them on the tank, burnish them with a soft pencil, and then peel back the shiney paper, leaving the image on the tank.

Am I the only guy that didn't know this??????

Hmmm...

Nice thing to know so I don't just chuck the M41 'decals' when I finally get it. And you can selectively rub 'em on, making different sequences from the existing alpha-numerics.

LOL, I wondered why everyone chucks them away, they're handy if you're doing a tank with lots of 3's, 8's and 1's, I use them on 1/25's too

How is the quality compared to Archer's dry transfers... Archers are top quality, and well known in the scale model kitbuilding community, mostly in 1/35 scale armor, but they have a decent selection in 1/16 as well, I used a set of these on a WSN Tiger I and I can attest to their quality, just wondered how the HL tranfers measure up by comparison....??

They seem excellent. The red bear on my whitewashed PZ IV is one of them

Well I wasn't really looking for any. Heng long switched from stickers to these new transfers somewhere between the many tanks I have purchased. Once you read one Heng Long manual, you kind of have read them all. However they caught me out on this, and I thought I might not be the only one.

The HL stickers are certainly better than the almost transparent rubbish decals I got from CreepingDeath.

Send your HL stickers to those that need them rather than throwing them in the trash, recycling is a good thing. Buying crappy decals that end up in the bin isn't, other than for the seller.

I still tossed them away because they are too thick to be of any use.

Roger all the way on Creeping Death decals. I got stung on those also. They look great on the paper, but on the tank, they become invisible unless you paint white under them. [:'(]

On the HL instruction "manuals" , have to agree, after you attempt to read one and deceipher the Chinglish "directions" the tendency is to disregard them and do your own thing. I'll have to check some of the old HL decals I may have in my box and see if they are any of the new ones. Interesting and appreciate the heads up on what most of us overlook. [X(]

This thread cracks me up because I always used the decals that came with the Heng long tanks! I heard guys complain about them, but I had nothing to compare it too, I just thought to myself, that they are OK and went on using them!

I am not talking about the stickers that come with the earlier Heng Longs. They were just gossy self adhesive stickers. The newer ones are different, and only leave an image, once the top layer is pulled back.

Older Heng Longs? I have a fairly old Tiger and IFAIK those decals were not changed and they are fine.

Well the two Heng long tigers I purchased did not have the new style of Heng long decal. THey were just images that you had cut out of the self adhesive tape. They were thick and had a terrible shine to them. The picture below is after I had cut them out of the sticker sheet and applied a couple of clear coats. These were not transfers, they were just plain stickers.

Yes not all hav e came in that way I had at least one out of my 10 HL that had the glossy type, but my old PanTiger had the nice peal of kind and I bought the P-III when it forst came out from TankZone is was the better kind, but I think my Tiger I bought about a year and a half later was glossy kind so it is hit or miss!
