When it comes to a sand cast texture, I have a lot to learn and appreciate any help and suggestions. I gotta do some experimenting to see which treatment will work for me. The thought of doing something that can't be fixed, and ruins something that took a bunch of time and effort to make, scares me. I actually had a dream about this a few nights ago. This hobby is not supposed to be weird and spooky !!!!!

The overnight soaking in mineral spirits worked for removing the paint and sand, but left an oily or greasy surface. I was able to remove that with a bath in rubbing alcohol. I like alcohol, I have discovered it has many uses in life.

Anyhow, I decided to do the sand cast texture using the textured paint that Rustoleum makes for outdoor metal furniture. I sprayed some paint into a plastic cup and then carefully applied the paint to my turret with a paint brush. Close enough!!!! ------ It's still a bit rough ------ but I was happy with the results and was glad that I could redo my original disaster. Now I can finish this project.

In between that correction and now, I took a break and built a Wolfhound just for fun, I will post it under a separate thread.

I did the front end of the lower body the same way and am getting in the mood for a final paint job.

All that matters to me is that it looks scale!!! I like that you found the economy 100 FT. roll. Maybe some khaki or steel paint?

Rex,
It looks fantastic, all your scratch builds look like kits when you're done with them, great work!

Thanks for the compliment about my stuff. I am going to send my résumé in to Tamiya ..... can I use you as a reference on the job application? :o

As always, I am impressed with your work wither it is purple or steel in color!!!! I am just jealous that you found the 100 Ft. economy roll. :o

Rex,
You can use me as a reference, after all the 1/35 scale kits I bought back in the 70s, I figure I at least furnished Mr. Tamiya's Chateau in the south of France, so that ought to impress them. However not being Japanese could hurt your chances, they might relegate you to sweeping the floors in the corporate bath house.
At least you will get a discount on any Tamiya kits you buy, not such a great thing for a scratch builder of your talent, but it will keep your spares box full of parts.

No problem .... I have swept floors before, and I do windows too.

Your comment about my spares box was right on target ....... excellent timing. Three days ago I got in the mood to rearrange my stuff and I looked into my spare parts boxes and the basket case tanks that I have. I got to wondering if I had enough junk to build an entire tank of some sort. Sure - why not? I am working on a tank that never was, but could have been, If it was built out of junk parts found in a multinational war surplus salvage yard after WWII.

Hey --- look what Dr. Frankenstein was able to build out of parts from his spare parts box ---- I am convinced I can build something just as beautiful.

I will start a new thread under the Subject title ....... Project Zombie ....... in a couple of days. I not sure how silly I'm gonna get with this thing.............
