That's too bad. This is one of the reasons I sold mine. If it were a kit with plans, it could be fixed fairly simply but being an ARF, you have to start over which is more costly then having purchased a kit. Sure kits take time but these ARF's do to when you consider the efforts we put into them and in the efforts it took me to flip the one I had, I've built two kits...rivets, panel lines and so on.
Sorry for your loss... hate to see a wulf go in.

I dont know the design of the Dora from ESM guys but I do care when I see a fellow RC model lost . My ESm corsair had a week wing play spar that was supposed to be used to connect the outer wings to the center section.
If you have one in the kit form, check there ply over really well.
I made a new ply former from laminated stronger ply , the kit origonal would surely have failed under load.
Hope this helps

For those still reading... Finally had enough time at home to mess around with my XYZ 53 and get it running on my test stand. It pulled a solid 20 pounds on the fish scale using a Xoar 22x10...assuming a conservative 15% loss due to friction etc, that's a solid 23 pounds of thrust (I think probably more). Starting problems ended up being a defective ignition. Ordering a Biela 3 blade and will see what kind of performance it produces when I get back from my next trip.

I was running a 3 blade 20x10 biela on a 50cc spitfire..rpms weren't very good at 6400 and the plane flew like a dog. I pulled that off and put a 2 blade turnigy 20x10 and the plane flew phenomenally better.
With the biela, I was nervous making to steep of a bank turn as I was afraid I'd lose too much airspeed and the plane would stall. This is how poorly the biela props perform. They are not a light prop. I have a 20x14 on my D0-335 on the front(electric setup). I am still trying to find a decent replacement to pull that one off.

I ran a biela 4 blade on an EME35 for a different project (scaled down per the factory recommendation). It lost about 2 pounds (14lb vice the 16lb the two blade pulled) as read on the fish scale compared to the recommended 2 blade (19x8). Assuming a similar loss on the XYZ, it should be pulling about 21 pounds of actual thrust, which should be plenty for a 26 pound FW... That said, I'm going to run it on my test stand and see what it puts out with the three blade. I'll let y'all know what my results are when I get back from my next trip in mid July.
Incidentally, did manage to finally get my hands one an ESM Dora!

everything is relavant weight is based on other three blade props, my bells prop was lighter then other carbon fiber props that I have . I am not comparing them to two blade wood props .
Bella props are thicker then most three blade but very good props in there class of three blade . You can get a more efficient three blade in the same size of a Bella --example a 20 -10-3 blade Bella is differant then most other a 20-10-3 blade props with the same specs but thinner blades that are more efficient. I have very good performance with Bella props but have undersized per manufactures suggestions. I was not looking for speed but more for scale

How did you size your props? I'm looking at going down 1-2 inches in blade length and keeping the same pitch for the 3 blade. On the 4 blade, I went down in length and pitch.

I am not an expert so I use this chart along with an email to the engine or motor supplier .
As an example when speaking with Horsion , they had me drop one additional size vs what the number said , three years later, planes flys great still no issues so its great to get advice from the manufacture to confirm the numbers .
My theory " an expert is someone that is no longer willing to learn "
I went from an 18/10/3 to a 17/10/3 on a 3 blade conversion based on there advice on my particulr project

Finally maidened her last Sunday!
She flew like she was on rails!
First landing approach was way too fast so I came around again with half-flaps and brought her down. I had one manageable bounce and then she rolled out nice right to the very end of the runway!
Was taxing back to the pits and went to raise the flaps and hit the gears switch instead... broke the prop and my pride
I cannot believe how stable she is! Can't wait to get her back up! Will try to get some vid!
One happy camper!

Congrats Dan, the D9 is a great flier. You will be very surprised how slow the ESM planes gets with that thick wing. It's almost un-nerving.
Heres some more artistic pics of mine I did the other day. It doesn't look like an ESM plane but it is.

It's nice to see folks are still active on here. I have one, finally, that I'm itching to get together, but for "political" reasons I have another plane that has to be completed and maidened first (my wife bought it for me). It also doesn't help that work has me gone all the time...I'll be on the road 23 days in Sep!
Hope to see more vid and pix so I can live vicariously through y'all!
