Fly,

So sorry to hear that. I'll stick w/ the non-functional gear for now. All I need is another headache.

That stinks! After much research awhile ago, I decided to go with the Sierras. I have not flown with them yet as I am still in the building process, but they certainly appear to be very tough an durable!

If you are going to use anything but electric power, never use Karbonite-geared servos in any airplane. The gears are brittle, they will break, and you will lose the plane.

Yes on the road and will be back on Wednesday and I will give you the servos by number .
I have used Hitech and Futaba , I will get you all the numbers by brand. I did what you did asked senior club members and hobby shops, a great one to call is Skyhobby in MN , ask for Jeremy , he knows his stuff !!!

Flap servos are in!! took one of the hatches from the wing and adjusted the Aurora 9 to accept the reversal. Tough to get moving on this with sick kiddos and the house falling apart. Replaced the hot water heater by myself yesterday. Quite an education!

just ordered one, for 250 shipped on ebay...( they must have screwed up because they since removed it ) will start on it next week. Don't know if I will bash it, mod it, or leave it stock. Of course I will glue the wings inside, and strengthen what's needed.Might get some darker blue for the top side...or just paint it. Looking for electric retracts right now.... anyone have any recommendation?
thanks

I'm not spending the sierra fortune or the robart bank robbing... I thinking stock H9 mechanicals will be just fine. I know yall been talkin about the retracts...but I haven't read anything I wanna hear yet
Getting the plane today. Yet to see an assembly thread so I may just start one.

Gear for this size plane requiring rotating legs has been a big debate. Like you I couldn't or wouldn't swing the cost of the higher end gear. I used the E-Flight 25-45 100 degree rotating retracts. Depending on the power setup the TF Corsair will come in withing the stated weight range. They have held up well and are easy to set up. IMHO they are worth a look for planes in this size range.

Appreciate the hit. I'm thinkin those might not be big enough, but thanks to your link I found these...http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/EFLG520horizon says perfect fit at 95 degress...I think nose overs but...any thoughts?

well that link wont go to the page for some reason but they are the 95 degree 60/120 size

Have you tried the 1700 mm FMS corsair retracts sold by Motion RC ?

Big

I don't think the larger set was available when I put mine together. Although the smaller set had held up the larger size could be a good option. The limiting factor is the distance from the front of the wing to the spar. Several others hinted that cutting into the spar is a bad idea. It is already notched for the gear legs and I would have to agree that cutting more would be a bad idea. Nose over has not been an isse for me. The 5 deg of difference probably won't change the stability and handling a noticeable amount. Whatever you do it's a fun relatively easy to fly warbird.

LDM - I have a set of the FMS retracts in a Starmax Skyraider about the same size at the FMS Corsair. They work on the lighter foamy but I wouldn't expect them to hold up with a slightly heavier plane.

I have been useing the 1700 base with differant struts on my 79" EPO LX P40 , its about 15 lbs , but you have to be comfortable with your selection so I understand your concerns.
With me as long as I know the drive unit can lift the wheel and carry the weight of the plane then its up to the struts to protect the retract unit and its up to my fumbling hands to land good lol .

Although it's in a T.F. P-40 .60-size arf, my Sierras have been absolutely trouble-free. They are the same retract with a different length strut. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Pricey, but you only have to buy them once.

Lifer; a lot of RC flyers including myself have at one time and maybe still do, buy servos with torque values well above what is actually required for your particular RC aircraft. I thought I would share this link with you, it's a calulation tool to assist in the selection of servos that have suitable torque values for your particular RC aircraft types.

I appreciate the link. It should be a useful tool. Anytime I give a recommendation, I always err on the side of caution. That's why I went with larger than usual specs on the servos.

well I have been making some progress. I have decided to go with robart electric retracts....they went down in price. Havent started on the wing yet. I have the engine mounted, and the cowl mounted. Made better cowl mounts that reach 3 or so inches from the firewall. Have to trim a little more for the carb.
