Gary,
One of your fans (lurkers) here. Can you tell me about using Hysol and micro balloons? I'm familiar with Hysol, with (West Systems) epoxy and different micro balloons but have never used Hysol with micro balloons. Can you tell me why you combine them (weight savings I assume but....) and is there any difference in using Hysol vs epoxy and micro balloons.
Whit
Glad to have you aboard Whit.

Here is why I combine these too products. First, you already know the virtues of Hysol. Many of us would call it simply the best adhesive where an epoxy is called for. The strength of the Hysol is why I use it with the balloons, which, as you know, weaken the epoxy it is in. Now, we usually use the microballoons to reduce the density and thus the weight of the epoxy for the given volume. However, In my case, this is a secondary benefit. What the microballoons do for this great adhesive is to keep it in place. You can make nice fillet joints and fill gaps even on a curve, and the Hysol does not run out when it is laden with the balloons.

So, you get the light weight expansion of the glue, and also have a very strong epoxy 'paste' that will stay where you put it. This saves both weight, you don't have those large puddles, and time, you can cover a lot of ground where otherwise, you would need to rotate your ship and do several applications. Plus, you have a super strong joint, even with the balloons.

Hope I explained that well enough. Let me know.

Sorry for the trouble. I went back and corrected the mistake Dan pointed out. The correct email address is [email protected]

This is also the pay pal address for ordering.

You should have no problems with it. Thanks. And thank you for the help with this Vern.

I also checked my PM box. It shows no indication of being full. Nothing to indicate that anything is wrong with it on my end. I may need to contact RCU if the problem continues. Sorry for any inconvience.

Yep, I just tried a test PM to you and it says your Inbox is full.. That must be why you never got the email request form oct 2011 for some steel powder! haha. If the settings checkout does not work. Get with RCU and get it fixed!

Curious, I have absolutely no indication on this end that there is a problem with my inbox, and I'm still not getting any notices from RCU, and that includes from threads and clasified. This is jacked up.

I'll continue to work on it.

OK, I went in and checked, and I had PMs that went back 10 years. I'm a bit of a pack rat, and I guess that includes PMs. 34 pages of them. almost 1000. Is that too much.

I broke down and deleated some pages (because it wouldn't let me arcive them, they must have talked to my wife), so it would be nice if someone could send me one to see if it that did anything.

Hello Gary,

Just checking in regarding the gun lights and sound system.
Hello. I just finished up all the pricing for the complete scale lighting system for this Corsair, and hope to have the gun system finished this evening. Sorry to take so long, and thank you for being patient with us. This is really my brother's area, so I needed to work this out with him.

Vern,
Since the former for the gear must be glued to the fuse, possibly, you glued the former at an angle other that perfectly vertical! If so, it should be an easily fix by gluing some 1/8'' thick (or so) piece of ply along the top mount of the gear.
Well, You called it! I just checked the tail wheel mount former and it is dead nuts vertical. I will add a piece of ply to the top mount and correct the angle.
Thanks for all the help.
Vern

I installed the down and locked electric wing conversion and all works great. I did have a problem when I tried to put the wings back on the Corsair. They would not seat all the way into the sockets. I found the problem. Gary may have mentioned this several hundred messages ago. I thought i would point it out for others, cause I did not catch it.
After you install the conversion, the new welded stop on the arm causes interference just as the wing is about to seat into the socket. I took some photos of the area. You will need to remove just enough of the carbon from the socket to allow the stop to fit. Once this is done, the wing assembles as it should.

Was just over at the "skunk works", my brothers shop. He has some family visiting and they all seem to want to use the shop to smoke. Too cold outside.

Anyway, took some pictures of the lighting and gear. The little wood rings are hand made and hold the bulbs in the gun barrels. He is working on the wing tip nav lights as well.

The gear is totally fitted and the hole is made in the spar for the jack screw. The mounts are in for the gear door controls as well.

here is a picture of a tasty set of diamond wheel cutters. He uses these all the time. I have a couple sizes, but he got this whole set for I think 15 bucks at Toledo last year.

They work great on this composite stuff and the carbon fiber parts like the gear doors.

Default RE: CARF F4U-1 Corsair build thread

For those of you who have been waiting on the lighting and gun systems pricing, here is the first part. The lighting.

This is all custom built for the CARF Corsair, although components will work for other fighters of the day, from 1/6th up to 1/4 scale on some models. I'll explain this later.

There are (10) lights on the Corsair, not including the landing light. We have priced each light, or in some cases, groups of lights, separately, so the builder has the flexibility to choose his level of detail or work to his budget. A custom central wiring harness accommodates all of the scale lighting, but is convertible to your choices. Simply plug in the ones you choose. You also have the flexibility to add more of the lighting later, if you want. It is equipped with the power source jack and on-off switch, or it can be operated from the transmitter.

Here is the breakdown for the Corsair.

Wings - (5) formation lights (1) each, red, amber, and green on the bottom, and (2) blue on top ......these are custom lens of the appropriate color, with matching color bulbs for effect, each with a lead equipped with a plug, and some aluminum foil to make the bezel out of $165

Wings - (2) tip nav lights (red and green) with lenses......$60

Wings - (1) top white nav light with a lead and plug, and lens....$30

Fuselage - (1) blue dorsal nav light with lens, and (1) rear white light with lens, all with leads with plugs.... $60

The custom wiring harness made for this specific plane, with power jack and switch, and all necessary disconnects.......$180

The main harness will be in the Fuselage. Labeling will make installation very easy. And instructions with locations and installation suggestions will be available.

As for adaptation to other planes, we plan aircraft specific harnesses, with plug-in components that are universal. As for the formation lights, these can be scaled up slightly, or down, simply by making the aluminum bezel larger of smaller. The other bulbs are good for a wide range of scales, plus we have different size bulbs in extreme cases.

We will also be making extensions available for the bulb leads.
