Robarts Landing Gear Issues
With all the issues with Robarts Retracts made for this Bird, what about using Sierra gear; I know they cost more, but will they fit without too much problems or modification and if so what sort of modifications are needed for them to work?

That is the route I am going to take when I am ready to install retracts. No way am I going to waste money on the Robarts. Skyshark makes a pretty nice little mod kit for the Sierra.

The problem with the Robart TF FW190 and TF Zero Robart gear is that in Robart's infinite wisdom the weld the pins into the trunion. This weakens the metal pins. If they would just secure hardened pins in the trunion without welding them, they would find that the pins would not bend so easily. I bet they will say they did that so the pins would bend and not rip the gear out of the wing. LOL. Good excuse, I bent mine in my zero on a average landing. A guy at are club is a machinist and he has JB welded some hardened pins in another members TF FW190 and he has had no problems at all. Anyway, GO with the Serria. They are worth the extra money!

I am not sure. If I were to guess, they probably are the same. I have the Serria for my FW190, but will have the harden pins put in my Zero this winter. I have bent them twice and the landings were not that bad that they should have bent. I wish I went with the Serria Zero retract now.
I'll will upload picture of the FW190 Serria retracts.

You can see the side stryt is functional and locks when the gear is fully extended.

Thanks for the reply. I'm contemplating my next project and I like the Top Flite warbirds, but the Robart gear issues are a concern. I have a set of Sierras in a .60-size Top Flite P-40 and they perform great but they are pricey. You always get exactly what you pay for but I have a budget.

Warbird Pilots 1/6 ~ 1/5 Scale WWII German Luftwaffe Pilot, Top Flite Giant FW-190
Hello, My name is Adam Martin of Warbird Pilots. www.warbirdpilots.com I have been getting a lot of questions lately as to which pilot fits the Top Flite Giant FW-190. So I wanted to take a second to show you the pilot I offer for this aircraft and how it fits.
The pilot is the 12" Tall, 1/6 ~ 1/5 Scale WWII German Luftwaffe Pilot
http://www.warbirdpilots.com/product...lot-figure.htm
As you can see the pilot comes with all that is shown. Pilots come completely dressed and ready to install. The figure comes with a beautifully painted head and highly detailed clothing and equipment specific to the Luftwaffe. Right down to the German oxygen mask. I also made all the clothing, accessories, and equipment fully removable to allow you to change the pilot and give it your own personal look. Finally, I designed it with a wire frame, cotton body that is incredibly light (5 ounces) and allows it to be manipulated and bent in any position.
As you can see from the pictures below, the entire figure fits incredibly well, and is very easy to adjust and to sit in the exact location you want. One advantage with the wire frame cotton body is that the figures seated height can be adjusted just by bending the figure further up or down its waist. That will allow the figure to sit higher or lower in the seat and get his eyes to look right down the gun sight.
And don't forget to look at the servo operated moving head option. I install a Hitec HS-55 servo in the figures chest allowing the head to be moved left and right. If you add this option, the figure will come complete with a wire coming out his pants, ready to plug and play.

I hope this helps you decide the correct size pilot to fit into your Top Flite Giant FW-190. Feel free to call or email me with any questions or if you just want to talk shop. I have been flying for 25 years and love warbirds.

Hi Guys,
This last Sept at a warbird event I had the first flight perfect.
The second flight when I cut to idle on landing my DA 50 died....what the heck! Never did that before.
A hour later going to fly again after motor start up any time I tried to bring back to idle the motor would about quite.
SO....I run the throttle trim up a bunch so it would taxi out.
After a good flight the motor would not idle down enough to land so a go around and bringing back the throttle trim.
I did get the motor to idle slow enough to land but screwed up the landing and broke the plastic cam on the Robart.
This morning I fought the FW190 inside socket screws for three hours as I must have used the too good Lock-Tight on screws.
Finally I just grabbed that big cowl and yanked it off breaking off the plywood liner.
That cowl will be held onto blocks with screws OUTSIDE from now on.
AND...I never did find any throttle linkage problems???????? So I am changing throttle servo.

I'm not arguing, colors can be any, for every taste, but differences arrangements should be as accurate as possible. Location and size have very important role! You may make a mistake on a 1/2-1 inch +/-, but not at 2-3, this is already a big difference. It's like that to draw eyes to temples, closer to the ears, but not to the nose. I hope I'm clear cited? Or for example to draw black stripes on the wing of the p-47, p-51 at the edge of the console on the ailerons. I think the error is apparent.

It's not perfect but you can see what he is talking about... I am wondering about the "console" he keeps referring... Is there a translation loss?

Excuse friends! My browser is adjusted on machine translation from English into Russian, and when writing of posts by me in English, something went not and the browser translated the text back into Russian. I will try to restore everything a hronologichny order from a post #4014.
#4014. I asked FokkerD7, whether there is at it a photo? (post No. 4013)
Further, I pointed FokkerD7, to its error of an arrangement of identification marks on the wing console (a photo, a post No. 4005). "The remark on the previous photo of coloring of the console: arrangement of identification marks not correct. The cross has to be a little closer to the centers. On the Internet there is many photo of schemes of an arrangement of identification marks."
#4018. "To my deep regret, my plane crashed into closing of a summer season... there was an engine failure, the distance was big, and the plane, without having held on to a runway, crashed into a tree. The right console is destroyed completely, on the left console, not a big loss. I wanted to order new, but the price now and dollar exchange rate, bite. I decided that I better will make the new project of a wing, under the retrakt set from the LADO company. I will make wing consoles divided, for convenience of storage."
#4019 I answered sparky4lawndart: "I don't argue, the coloring can be any, for every taste, but signs of distinctions have to be as it is possible more precisely. The arrangement and the size have very important role! It is possible to be mistaken on 1/2 - 1 inch +/-, but not on 2-3 inches, it is already big difference. It all the same that to draw eyes on temples, is closer to ears, but not to a nose bridge. I hope clearly gave an example? Or for example to draw black strips on a wing of R-47, R-51 on the edge of the console, on ailerons. I think that the mistake will be obvious."
I hope my Google the translation isn't so awful. If there are questions, set.
