Charles' Ryan STA-M Giant Scale
Well, after some time, I finally finished my electric conversion of the Great Planes Ryan STA-M.
A few particulars:
E-Flight Power 120 motor
Castle 100Amp HV ESC (more than needd)
8 x 5000 mAh Lipo cells
17 x 10W APCE Prop
Flying Weight: 10.3 lb.
Wing Loading: 22.3 oz./sq. ft.
Approx 130 Watts/ lb.
The ARF modifications:
A large top hatch was fabricated with a spring loaded lock.
Removal of the forward cockpit.
Fabrication of a ply box motor-mount.
A sliding, removable battery tray for ease of charging.
New blue covering on the fuselage (replacing the silver).
Painting of F/G parts.
Replacing and adding new Vinyl graphics by Get Stencils.com
The first pic is of course with me and the Ryan.
The second shows the enormous hatch.
Thirdly, the final appproch...
Fourth, a perfect landing!
The fifth thru ninth are of the vinyl graphics,
thanks to Get Stencils.com Go Army! Thanks Vicki
D.S. Charlie (the pilot, who is unfinished) stands for Dead Stick Charlie,
A nickname aquired at the field after 22 flights out of 27 were deadstick landings.
They were not accomplished with electric power however and not with this airplane...a whole nuther story...
The number 13 is derived from said deadstick landings.

Oh Yeah...another thing...The THIRTEEN stripes on the rudder were painted by me
replacing the FOURTEEN stripes that came with the plane!!!
The really irritated this old Army dude!
