im out of town for work, but when i get back, ill be doing something different than a Luftwaffe plane.. Atleast until i get Jose' 152, but that project may be a little slow going until i get an accurate set of retracts made.

I hear ya Invertmast. I wish there was an accurate 1/5 scale set of gear. Some with a scale action with the down link strut that folds the correct way and swings down like FW Jeff's gear. That would be great. Sierra is good gear but not as scale as I would like and I like the way Barton gear his swings from the side of the body. That allows you to get the correct movement.

Im working on talking a guy into it. The TA gear is different than conventional 190 gear in that it doesnt have the down lock braces.

Nice Ramm. This is what I got done tonight. Right outer wing panel for the Stuka. This is the last major component to be framed. This Ziroli design is so good, dare I say it is "easy" to build? !! It has gone very smooth so far. The 1/4" stick in the pic, is used to set the washout per the design. Seems to have worked so far. We will see when I get the meter on it later!

Thomas, I'll do it... will delay the F14 gear though! I was thinking of trying to do a working scale retract ram too.. Something to test.

That is not true. They have downlinks, but they are at a different angle. More like 50-60 degrees instead of 45, like the 190. I have a bunch of pics.
The Sierras are close enough for me, unless you have the coin to get something custom made. Which I do not!

Looks awesome VG, very inspirational.

I wonder how much more complicated the gear would be for a kit of the TA152's nature. I agree that I'll just be happy with the Sierras but it would be nice.

Invertmast, keep pushing for the gear..I want to see what you do to the TA-152! I'll have my note pad ready

Yo Ram, are you going to the museum thing this year? I am somewhat estranged from my club right now, but I could bring the Stuka and my new Fokker triplane, if I could set up with you guys?

Respectably, No it doesn't, from what limited data I have. What you think appear to be down lock braces are actually the Hydraulic strut retraction cylinders. Granted they double as down locks, but they are not a down lock scissor/brace in the normal scope of things (like what the Anton's and Dora's have).

I'd like to see what all data you have though, as I am limited on 152 data and would like some more, plus the more I can give to Dave for the gear, the better they are.

I see no reason why the gear would have to be insanely priced, especially if we can get 4,5,6 guys to order a set all at once

Invert is correct, you can even see the cylinders if you look closely at the wing in the pic.

So that's basically a stretched FW-190 with a long, thin, slender wing. What does that do for performance? Is it kinda floaty, especially on landings?

You are right, it is just the cylinder for retraction, but I wonder how much difference it makes? I am building mine for competition, so for me it would be nice to get it as scale as possible. Otherwise, not sure it would be worth it.
If you can get the price to be where the stock 190 gear are, count me in. I would also like them to have the exact same footprint, so they would drop in, where the FW 190 gear would. Would that cylinder be a dummy, or part of the actuation?

High aspect ratios have less vortex drag. So you can turn tighter before snapping out, and overall the lift is more efficient. They are very stable and smooth. Dave Andersen told me he has thermalled his design at idle. That is pretty impressive for a 25lb plane. We shall, if I can ever get mine done.

Well I'll be doing the design from scratch, not making hundreds and at much higher scale fidelity, so it would cost more than the simple gear Sierra makes. If I can get 5 or more people that want them, it brings the cost down though (I'd "eat" the development cost). If at all possible, I'll try to make the cylinder "real". I've got an idea on how to do hydraulics simply that I need to try out yet. Next step is to find good reference material. I have some, and will see what I can come up with. To do drop in for the default gear, I'd need the dimensions of the mount.

Cheers

I will dig out all of my books and see what I have relative to the landing gear. The drawing previously posted is one that I have, and is probably one of the best. By "drop in" I mean, match the mount dimensions and boring of the existing (popular) 1/5th scale FW 190 gear from Sierra.

On another note, I should be receiving a 3d printed, MG 151/20 cannon in the mail any day now. It is a prototype part, and if I like it, I will be getting an order in for some. I will post pics when it arrives. I am also very excited to be getting a 3d printed, radiator for my 1/4 scale Fokker DVII. This I am getting from Iflytailies. This 3d stuff has some great possibilities I believe.

Did you order that from shapeways?

No, I never got the name of his company. He has a thread in here somewhere on scale parts. Seems like he his getting time from universities or something. I think we may see number of these companies pop up. Guns and small scale parts are a perfect application for this right now.

VG, I like the idea of the scale 3D part for the DVII. I wonder if he could make 2? I know that you people on this thread are building very scale. And thats great, I love it. But I have a set of FW190 gear from an Easytiger ( I think ). The 95inch wingspan arf. The gear has the air system and wheels included. If you know of anyone that is in need of a like new, but not really scale set of gear, let me know. And best of all, its cheap! Make me an offer cheap, I just want it out of my way. Thanks.

Can't wait to see the scale parts VG. I'd be interested in a set or three. I'd also be curious to the group price for scale TA152 gear.

My package came in with numerous goodies so I will go back to the Platt FW190 for a bit and come back to the Meister in a few days. In the mean time, I placed the elevator servos in the horizontal stab. Seen this don on several others with success.

I didn't plan well so I have to make another Tower order for more servos and a pitts mufflers for the DLE 85's. GOD, this hobby is getting expensive....

Here is my progress and scheme.

Anyone know a good source for G10? A lot of G10?
