Have you calculated what the wing loading will be?

Nope,
Honestly i dont really care about wing loading. It only tells you a small amount of the whole picture. Wing cubed loading is more accurate.

But since you asked, assuming 65lbs rtf
wing loading =59oz./ sq. ft
wing cubic loading = 14.7

The reason I asked was I wanted to compare it to how mine came out. Since the are comparable models, other than mine is smaller.

Mine came out:

30lbs
48.47 load
15.4 cube

Ha ha, "floater" is a relative term. Certainly would not use that to describe mine, but then again, the majority of my warbird experience is WW1. I kinda think these are on the heavy side IMO. I wish I could lose about 6lbs from mine.

My 1/5 Anton (81" span) weighted 30lbs with fuel and while underpowered, it flew very well. Having yours 6lbs lighter would only make it fly poorly IMO... Excessively light warbirds dont look right in flight, especially in windy conditions.
Considering your 1/5 152 has 30+" more than my 190 did, it should fly really well. Dave Andersen even said he is able to thermal his 152...

Yes, he did say that. I just need to get mine fixed up and get it dialed in. I am sure it will fly fine.

Awhile since the last update, but ive been working hard on this thing to have a mostly complete airframe to display for 12 o'clock high this weekend.

The laser cut flight controls are all built and completed now. This photo is prior to finishing the elevators:

the elevator control horn is done:

And all of the hinges for the ailerons, elevators and rudder are cut from G10 and hysol'd into place

the rudder pull pull cable bushings have been machined from aluminum:

and installed:

the vertical stab tailpost was also cut out:

At this point 95% of the parts for the kit are designed. All that is left is the flap spar mold and the flap hinges.

What I got to see at 12 O'clock High this past weekend was absolutely stunning! The work is highly detailed and the overall shape dead on. Wow she is pretty and Tom is an artist. Great Job!

Thomas,

excellent work on the tail surfaces! questions: are they 1/32 ply or 1/64th? who's doing your CNC hinges?
I'm thinking in re-designing my rudder/elev/ailerons with 1/32 ply like the A/D models.

Nope, not at all. It took a lot of soaking with windex before it was pliable enough to bed and even then it was just barely. If i was doing it on a smaller version, i would use 1/64 for the skins.

I was using 1/64th but it became very expensive so I will try 1/32 next on my 1/5 FWs

Get the 1/64 from aircraft spruce, you get twice as much for the same $$$ compared ti buying it from a rc hobby source.

Thomas,
How soon do you think you will have one of these masterpieces together for yourself and flying ?

Kevin,
Mine is essentially built more or less. All the flight controls are built and hinged as well as the wing attachment structure tack installed. All that is left on it, is equipment install, engine install and flap stuff. i estimate about 1 1/2 months of work to get everything done snd ready for paint, NOT including engine installation. That will take a good bit of time bc of the complexities of the inline engine with the gear reduction.

All of the structures for wing #3 have been dry assembled and tack glued together.

Work permitting, at least one wing section will be closed tomorrow. I also cut out all the fabric layers for fuselage #4 today.
