Throttles work, fuel tanks installed, air system operational, battery and switches connected. Rear gunner seated. Engines and exhaust ready. All controls connected and adjusted for flight.

Cockpit and pilots need installed, bay compartments need building, air brush weathering, then balanced

(one weekend of work left)

Should have a total weight soon.

Dwayne's real life gets really busy this time of year and there is a pre-requisite amount of engine tweaking before maiden flight, so it could be a couple of months away

I will try to line up a high-quality videographer for the big day

This will be the last post of construction thread.

Total time of construction: @ 18 months

All systems operational

Final weight 44 lbs

Kee Bird is READY TO FLY, although there will be some engine and prop testing and maiden flight probably won't happen until August

If we get a decent video, I'll post it here. If not, I'll just give a report

AWESOME JOB, DWAYNE!! Thanks for sharing. It was an honor to chronicle the build, and hopefully some guys will get confused and think it was mine.

Im assuming it was successful and uneventful! Congrats, the best part of the project is seeing it fly. Gotta be satisfying.

Will you be building the Don Smith PCK B29 entirely or just this post? I have the same kit, started to build stabilizer and fin first. Been a real slow process so far. I would like to follow your build and be able to ask questions as I proceed with mine.

You must be looking through a limited device or web portal.

This thread is quite long: as close as I could make it to an Illustrated Build Manual, start to finish

Dwayne has a dozen or so additional flights on the bird now and it still looks good. I consider the thread to be complete, although comments and questions are welcome

Sounds like you're on your way

Hope it helps

Mark

Default B-29

In the pic of three B-17s, mine (Liberty Belle) is closest, next is Fuddy Duddy, then Organized Confusion. Brett Bowling out of Dallas brought his American Eagle Memphis Belle, I forgot to get a picture of that one. It was a great Warbird/Scale event. We had 75 pilots and around 225 planes. The only way to see some of my friends is by going to these events. Terry Monroe out of Shreveport Louisiana is working on a DS B-17 and a DS Constellation at the same time. I think he's nuts working two projects like that at once.

Shreveport is having a Warbird August 12 & 13 if anybody wants to meet up there. Probably closer than the Bomber Field B-17 gathering in September.

The whole reason for me following this thread is Mike and I are both gonna be starting DS B-29's late this year or early next year. I gotta clear three builds off the bench first and do some rewiring in my B-17, had some gremlins last weekend that grounded me.
Edwin
Edwin,
Did I understand you correctly that you and Mike Liable will be building B-29's in the near future?

Yes. I Hope to start mine sometime this year. Got delayed to do some repairs on my B-17. Already have the plans, and parts. Work bench is built. Just gotta clear it. Mine will be the 169". Mike was planning on doing the 144".

Nicely done but I have to ask, why the reduction from the scale dihedral? I notice this about many models of the B-29. Did Don Smith just get it wrong on the drawings? It can't possibly make it easier to fly.
