Hi Graig,
Yes, I'm going for a pull-pull linkage with a 3mm dia. pushrod, I hope it will work out...ones I have installed the rear retract platform (with the servo installed) I will post some pictures.
Do you have already some ideas about the exhaust you will use in your Mustang ? What do you think about the one from Keleo ? Looks very nice, but takes a lot of place...
Here you later on,
Erwin

Hello Graig,
Beginning of Mai 2010 I went to the C-arf meeting in Kehl (Germany), and my son Jonas had the opportunity to fly the Mustang from Thomas Singer (in Buddy box modus), awesome machine, flies incredible stable and has no bad habits...flaps deflection was between 35 - 40° without any compensation on the elevator. The power was a bit on the less side (50cc DA)...we will go for the DA 85.
Regards,
Erwin

Not to sure of what I am using for power as of yet. Lots of options out there. The Keleco exhaust looks awsome, however not to sure about how much room is left for all the other goodies needed to put inside.
I think the flap issue is due to my hinges. Will have to check that out over the next couple of days. I want as much deflection as I can get.

While it is snowing and freezing in Belgium i'd playing doctor on the mustang to make some rivets off ''woodglue'' on the interior of the canopy...
After i have finished the rivets i'll paint it over in the black color and add some grey paint on the rivets to get the effect of the real rivets.
Regards Erwin.

Looks good Erwin. I did the same sort of thing before I permanently installed my windscreen, and I am glad I did.
I have been working on the sliding unit for the canopy. I am using a carbon fibre rod with a sleeve I made up that will slide the canopy back and forth. The attachment piece for the canopy is made of plywood, with carbon fibre along the sides for strength. This is attached to the slider, and to the bottom of the canopy. It is all modular so it is removeable, except the slider that is on the rail. The rail is hysoled in, and tonight I hope to get the rail mounted for the aircylinder. For some reason it will not allow me to upload pictures, will try again later.
Craig.

I am looking for a lubricant that can be used on my carbon fibre shaft. I am doing a sliding canopy, and I have a fibreglass sleeve that travels along a carbon fibre shaft. I was wondering if there is a lubricant that I can use that will not breakdown the carbon fibre. It appears to be sticking a bit.

Craig, will powdered graphite do it? The stuff they sell for lubricating tumblers in keyed locks. Obviously carbon will not break down carbon, but maybe it'll cake-up. Might be worth a shot, though.
Your P-51 is looking great!

Well it seems to be working better the more it is used. I still need to put in a few channel guides, to help guide the piece that attaches the slider to the canopy. I put some bar soap on the rails and a quick wipe on the carbon fiber. seemed to lub it up well, but will pick up some graphite. I know i have some around here somewhere.
The cylinder is in, and am happy thus far. Will still need a bit of tweeking, and am sure it will work well [8D]

I still have not decided where I want my air bottles. I will be installing 2 of the large airtanks. I have seen both methods used, either in the fuselage, or the wings.. I think I may put them in the fuselage just above the airscoop. The main UP2 Valve can be placed as far forward as I can get it.
Still deciding at this point. More to follow, and it is decission time. Need to get this bird done, and painted

Looking Good Craig
I did the 2 air bottle thing also...one up front and one above the radiator....also built a shelf in the top cowl and put one battery there which eliminated the need for extra weight....UP2 up front also

Nice work you did on the sliding canopy Craig !
Today we glued the support for the tail wheel retract into the fuselage, made also a kind of servo box for the elevator servo's, still need to glue them with hysol into the stabs...the servo's are installed via the side of the stabs (no need to cut out a panel from the underside of the stabs).
Regards,
Erwin

Thanks Erwin, it will need a bot of tweaking to get it smooth, Erwin, love the servo box Looks very neat and tidy.
Made the mount for my UP2 Valve, and plate with servo. Did a rough setting with my radio for now. Will mount later when I work on the plumbing.
The clam shell doors have been bothering me for some time. I I drilled out the aluminum tube. and had inserted some brass. I have rough fitted the back brass pieces, and when that sets up, I will permamnetly glue these in. Then the front bushing will be inserted.
I am glad my gear is not permanently installed, as I need to move it out, about a 1/4 of an inch. With the clam shells in location the tires will rub on the clamshells as they retract. Just a point for other builders if they have not done this yet.

Well I managed to get the rear clamshell door tubes in location, and just need to secure the front tubing. Will do that tomorrow, hopefully. So I put the gear doors on as well as the clam shell doors to have a look. Over all not to bad. Will have to do some tweeking, and I can see several hours of frustration ahead

I cut out the glass from the fuel tank area. Made a nice clean cut, and sanded the edges down. I also traced out the firewall onto a piece of 1/4 in ply. I figure the 1/8th piece could use some beefing up. I figured I will need nose weight so I might as well make it functional nose weight.

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51
Just finished cutting out the 1/4 inch firewall that will be attached to the 1/8th inch supplied firewall.
I know I have seen a few different ways of doing this. One hole or two holes. Cooling may be better with 2 holes however the strength may be reduced. I like the one hole, and some extra ducting may be required.
Anyone have any input regarding this?
Glued the two pieces together, and will let it set up over night.

Hi Craig,
I'm Cyril from France. I've just started the building of my P51 CARF.
Many thanks for yours pictures. They give me a lot of good ideas...
I was afraid with the standard 1/8 firewal ! It's a firewall for a .25 trainer... I will cut a new one... I've a 3W75i engine to fix on it.

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51
Welcome aboard Cyril, and please post as you go. We all like to see different ways to do things.
I made a plywood piece for the front of the cowl, hysoled it in. I also cut out the front glass where the firewall will be going. Cleaned up the edges and she is a good fit. I also decided to remove the otherside at the bottom of the firewall to allow for more airflow. It would be easy to cover it later if need be.
After the cowl plywood has set up I will install my firewall, ensuring it is straight vertically with the cowl front.

I glassed both sides of the firewall with 2 oz cloth and Z-poxy finishing resin. After this was set up, I cleaned the edges, and inserted it into its location. Using a level, I made sure it was vertical with the front of the cowl.
Mixed up some hysol, and with a syringe, I put a bead on each side of the firewall, which forced the hysol into any cracks. Ran my finger around the edges and feathered the glue. After this is set I will glass it into location with some carbon fibre. This should make it plenty strong.
I am trying to keep everything neat and tidy, neatness counts in my opinion

The hysol set up real nice on the firewall
Put in two rails for the cockpit floor. There is 1 inch clearance at the narrowest part for the cooling airflow. Cut out and fitted the floor, nice and big. Just used some 1/8th ply, and put a coat of Minwax, natural colour. First coat done will do two more. Then I will seal the wood.

Did the initial install of the cockpit floor. It will have 2 screws in the front rail, and 2 screws in the rear.
