Well, today I will attempt to maiden my Jug! Mother Nature has finally cooperated with what should be a beautiful spring-like day. Calm winds and mostly clear skies. I performed the taxi tests yesterday - tracks nicely as a heavy fighter should. I will be sure to post some video and photos as soon as I can. Wish me luck fellas. I am as excited as my kids on Christmas Eve!

Maiden Flight Report:
Imust say that the maiden on my P-47 went about as good as it could have. This is one amazing airplane with nothing but positive attributes! She flew off of the runway tracking straight as an arrow. Zero trim required except for a few clicks of down elevator. The G62 purred like a kitten and really made this Jug move out at an astonishing speed! Very impressive for a 30 pound airplane. It seems extremely happy with the 20X10 Xoar prop and is a perfect combination of thrust vs. speed. It climbs with authority and has exceptional vertical given it's weight. I must say that it is equally as fast as my TF GS P-51 if not just a bit faster. We have a real winner here gents.
Most impressive is how well this airplane tracks through the air. It really grooves and has great penetration. Slow flight is exceptional with full flaps. I do not require any down elevator trim when flaps are extended to full. She settles in for a landing at a brisk walk and slows down enormously well. I think I have found my new favorite. My apologies to "Old Boy" - she has unfortunately moved into second place.
The smoke system worked astonishingly well. I look forward to trying it today with a blue sky. My son Collin took the short video clip. More flight pictures and full flight video will be available shortly when my fellow club members get the editing done and posted.
My thanks again to all who have contibuted to this thread. The input, information, and comeraderie shared here helped make this build of mine my finest effort sto date. Thanks again fellas!

Also, this is one incredible thread with nearly 10,000 posts and just under 600,000 views... this has to be the most prolific and active threads in all of RCU!

First congrats!
And your right about this thread, it has the most "viewed" of all the warbird threads...
Thanks Pete, you wonderfully sour humored(complement sir)man from down under, always willing to help, always making us laugh, and teaching us some of the finer sayings from the land of Oz.
I read this thread, because of the group here actually. I'm not building a TF Jug, although I do have a 1/6th scale Micko Jug.
...one great bunch of guys here all willing to help.

Well done Chris....
I just finishes my smaller version of the Top Flite P-47 and I am anxious to start on the GS version.
I also love just like you my GS TF P-51, but after watching your video I can understand why she is your new favorite.
I will commence my build shortly probably after the Toledo show and I am confident I will finish before Pete

Chris,
mate good result, well done. this about 6 of these started, completed and flwo nwith much enjoyment sicne I started. One day I will finish this bloody thing then what will you lot have to do?
Anyway well done.
Now I did manage to drag my slack ar se out yesterday to the warbird event, took the P51 and Seafury. Seafury was being test flown for recertication after having a new GT80 installed. We have to go through a full certication and test flight regieme her for any model over 7kg.
Anyway gemlins were hard at work. Had a major air leak in the seafury and after much fiddling about and swearing [:-] I managed to find it. One of my air tanks had a pin hole near the nipple. Luckily I had 2 in the car as another chap wanted to buy a couple off me. Replaced faulty tank, customer only got one after all.
Seemed to be ok. Fired up seafury. All good on ground. Pulling strongly
Took off nicely, climbed out well though with gear up it seemed to be dragging its butt. CG a bit rearward, not bad, enough to annoy and not make it fly nice. Balanced it with gear down and forgot to check with gear up.
Anyway about 2 mins into flight the gear sags down, uhoh I think so I drop the gear to get it locked down, couple more circuits and landed. Hmmm more air leaks?
Fueled up again. Had a coffee and a yak as one does at these events, 95% talking for 5 % flying is the correct mix for anybody who is wondering.
Pumped up the retracts to 120PSI, off I go into the wild blue yonder and given our weather of late it is a bit of a wild yonder, grey anyways.
Engien on both flights ran well but I think it is leaning out in flight. Might need a little richen up me thinks. Again it was dragging its butt. Defintely CG out a little. Again the gear sagged down. So I flew it like this for a while, about 10 mins all up. Did a crappy loop, rolls etc and it flew very nicely with gear down, no drag its ars e at all.
Defintely CG rearward. Easy fix. Time to land. Into the downwind, half flaps, trim, back off on throttle, into base leg, full flaps as I follow a curving approach, throttle coming off, into a nice glideslope on finals, looks great with gear down and full flaps. Into ground effects, cut throttle and it settles into a very nice 3 point landing.
Now to figure out where the air leak is. Will isloate wing from fuz by using a couple of cylinders hooked up instead of the wing and see if it is wring or fuz, then can further isloate to the problem and fix it.
One flight on the Mustang, engine was playing up. Kept quiting at full throttle. 2 aborted take offs, last one just on rotation. Managed to get into the air on 3rd attempt. On downwind engine tried to quit so back off to about 2/3rds throttle and it was happy so had a good 12 min flight and did a lovely landing.
Not bad considering I have had about 8 flights in last 12 months and those were on my 1/4 scale cub and astrohog !!
Now to find that bloody air leak grrrrrr

I was there to film the maiden of Chris's P-47. It was a beautiful flight and that is credit to both the plane and pilot. I have posted the video to youtube so feel free to check it out.

Great piece of Video work there Vintauri, that sure is a slick model. Chris did a great job flying her too. Well done to the two of you.
