Hi CRJDriver, I agree with Pete reset everything as perthe manual and retry, although I expect you will have the same result.
With what you are describing without actually being there and hearing the motor choke out, it sounds to me like the ingition is retarded and may need a slight advancing. Can this be safely adjusted with the engine running? If so you it should respond immediately. Otherwise close it down, advance it only a fraction and restart until it picks up and runs properly. See how you go a that......Good Luck.

Hi Chris
I would do as Pete and OldDC has recomended and if that don't work there is a tuning sequince that has worked for the guys in our club I will try to find a written copy so I can make sure what I am saying it correct first the lo/speed needle handles idle to about 50 % then the hi/speed take over. So the sequence is if and when you get it to about 5500 RPM + trim the hi/needle to get max RPM depending on prop on a new engine, I got 6500 with a 22 X 8 Zinger Pro then back down to idle and trim to get about 2k for the frist galon of fuel, and I ran mine a bit rich for the first 60 or so OZ of fuel at 35 to 1 then startad leaning a bit thru the first 3 galons and got the idle down to 1750 to 1800 my old manual says to use an ashles 2cycle oil when I got thru the 4 galon point I swithed to synthitc oil and 100 oct ave gas as it does not smell up the shop and car when transporting but most of our guys use our stright regular at 87 octain.
If this don't help and you still have problems you can check with RC Ignitions aka Ralph maybe Google it as I don't have his website any longer
Hope this helps

Chris. I hate to disagree with everyone. If you don't have any fuel metering then your pasages are plugged up to the high end. There could be some gunk or metal shaveings cought up in the passages. I know the carb is new but I had a new carb that acted the same way and once I replaced the carb everything was fine. If you have another carb available, switch them out. That should tell you something right away. I don't think its your ignition or your timeing. If you took the needle out and the engine kept running then you wont affect anything no mater where the needle is set. I think that if you take the needle out, your engine should die because you would change the mixture to lean. The High and Low needles affect each other. I hope I made sense and it helps.

Thanks guys for your help! I greatly appreciate it. Naturally, I did start with the recommended setings and went from there. I have been tuning engines for a lot of years and have never had this type of trouble. Especially on a new engine. I will take another stab at it this weekend and see what kinid of progress I make. I will start with a different carb and narrow it down from there. I have a hard time suspecting the timing but will address this as well.
Additionally, I need to replace my left flap servo, HS5645, as it has failed for an unknown reason. Also, get a good recheck of the CG. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks again gentlemen!

Now you tell me. That's the only place I have digitals on the Jug.[X(] I aint changin them.
Seriously I don't think you need digitals on a warbird but they don't hurt either as long as you set them up right.

CRJDriver
As amater of fact on my new 62 I did have some trouble with the high speed needle but mine did not show up till after the secound flight in my T/F G/S Corsair it just quit in the air hence my second one.
Any way I found the hole in the throat of the carb to be pluged, and had to take the alum plug out from in side the cab result was had to buy a complete rebuild kit to get the alum plug the piece I took out looked like a 90 deg pice of thread from a stripped bolt hole veary sharp point on one end and that was in the hole
Hope this helps

I agree there is no point having digital,s on a warbird.
Hitec 645 all round and they don,t suck so much juice from your battery and have more grunt then you can use.
On my latest Pica 1/5 Spitfire i am trying the Chinese equivalent of HT645.
I thought that we are using so much Chinese gear and i use there batteries no problem and have a DLE55 in the nose, why not?.
But i am using 2 X HT645 on the elevator just in case.
The Spitfire is at the moment 26 Pound with all the main gear in 87 inch span and i will test fly it in undercoat as you see it and it should end up about 30 Pound finished, that gives a 47oz.per sq. foot wing loading
My T/F P47 with a 3W85 is more or less finished and is 35 Pounds and as its a smaller 85 wing span that gives it a wing loading of near 60oz per sq. foot, six flights so far and it honks like hell.
I can't seem to make the P47 pics bigger.
OOps put two of the same P47 pics in.
Dave.

Hi Pete & Guys,
Can you give me a heads up on glassing the wing please. Did you glass the wing while it was still a relatively "flat" structure or wait until you completed the hump which flairs it into the fuselage? I not sure what to do for the best.
Regards
Barry

G-day Barry
I am not an expert on glassoing, but I did mine in 3 piece's center first and then the wings with about 1 inch over lap and I used west systems epoxy it is vary for giving and easy to use and with a small digital scale you can mix small batches as needed. but I don't know if it is available in the UK
Hope this helps

Well, the old donk runs grat now. It turns out that the carb block gasket (engine block to carb block), was misoriented by 180 degrees. This prevented the pulse from actually operating the fuel pump. I am quite astonished that it actually ran at all! This is one of the smoothest G62's Ihave ever had the opportunity to run. My son took the video of the smoke trial, as you will see - it scared the crap out of him. Iactually had to tone the pump down to 50% capacity - it still produces an enormous amount of smoke without leaving the belly wet with fluid.
She is currently turning a Xoar 22X10prop at 6700 RPM. Should have no problem in getting 7000 plus once she is broken in. Again, thanks for your help and support gentlemen!

Really pleased you got it all sorted out, Chris.
Had to laugh when the smoke came on and son ran like hell, what a rippa. Must say it looks very effective and should look spectacular in the air.
Please post some more pics or the finished model , we're all interested to see her complete.
How long now before you anticipate the test flight?
Kindest Regards....DC.

She's all ready to be maidened.! I just wish that Mother Nature could have cooperated this weekend so I could have maidened her. Direct x-winds out of the south gusting to 30mph. Not the best condintions for a funtional test flight. The good news is that she clanced exactly on the CG without adding any weight. I got lucky on this one! I hope to get her up next weekend or maybe one evening this week.

That's a mighty fine job you have done Chris. Best wishes on the maiden, I'm sure she will fly as good as she looks.

Hi Prekin
As a start I would suggest http://www.petenplanes.com.au/ if he hasn't got what you are after he can certainly put you in the right direction.
(Ain't that right Pete.....)
What exactly were you after, I can have a look around as well for you.
Regards, OldDC
