Bob, I was not refering to the tailgear itself, I was referring to all of the plywood and hardwood MOUNT the plans call for that the unit bolts to. To me it seems like a lot of weight could be save by going with a simple former instead of what the plans call for.

I would agree with Gary on this. A simple former mount, even using the Robart assembly, would save several precious ounces of weight in the tail, which should work out to 3/4 lb up front.

Hey you guys, Please take some video when you maiden (and after!). If I get the nerve up to fly mine I'll do the same (providing I can get a decent video recorder).

Hi Shannon,
I just confirm what all other guys already mentioned - GO FORCORSAIR!
The kit is really great prepared and if you will follow the instructions it is easy.
Believe me, it was my first kit too! even I built several planes till this Corsair only ARFs too.
When building the Corsair I went through all this great forum full of opinions, experiences and
pics of other guys of Brotherhood .
Good luck and enjoy building!!!

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Hello Gents,
New builder checking in!This will be my first proper build also, been flying for a little over a year and will be looking to build this beauty for our clubs summer rallye 2011. Will be wanting working gear doors and sliding canopy and also a full lighting compliment if possible.
Im so excited to get started but the good weather has begun here in the UK at the moment so ive been out flying a lot (and working and walking the dogs with the wife)
Will post pics and ask lots of questions im sure.
Thanks
Simon

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Hi Radek,
Thanks for the welcome Im sure the weather will turn sour again! Its still early in spring for it to be nice every day, temperatures are only reaching around 9celcius but skies have been clear and not much wind at all for the past 4 days and its set for the rest of this week.
Build wise i'll be taking it very slowly and enjoying the whole experience, ive been mostly an ARTFbuilder apart from one model (Mick Reeves Gangster Lite) and cant wait to get stuck in to her.
Thanks again
Simon

Hi Simon
Welcome to the thread, slow is good. ask all the questions you want as there are some great builders hear, and they pop in and out
Well our snow should be gone in a week and then it will have to dry put a bit just to walk on the field so with luck mabe first part of April will get to fly the heavy birds.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Well its been about a month now and all goes well. Wings framed with tip mods and gear recessed for clearance. The fuselage framed-top half. Now I have question. To make the incedence mods for the wings do i add all of the + to the front or split between the front and rear or all at the rear. I cant find a sideview good enough to measure off of. Any advice would be helpfull.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Hello everyone! I have been gathering miscellaneous stuff for my build and finally got a hold of a George Taylor action figure made by dragon. Picked it up on ebay for $37 plus shipping. Very nice. There is another on ebay right now that will expire in a day. If anyone else is interested in finding one of these figures I found a website that may have a few left, but they are $50 plus $10 for shipping which is getting pricey. If anyone is interested the website is militarytour.com. You should call before ordering.

Hi Acer802000
Thats a lone handle
About the incedance thing, what I did was use and incedance meter and use the longeron thats splits the fus as the thrust line, 0 the wing to it , and make the horizantat stab at +2 degs from the wing this has given me a vary good flying bird. If you need more info will try to look up a dwg or to to confirm.
hope this make sence as have been out with my bride for an evening
cheers Bob t

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Thanks rt3232. From what I have found, the wing is 2 degs and the horizontal stabilizer is 1.25 degs. Could be wrong but have already framed for the stab. From all the photos I have seen the wing is in the way of the wing. Cant measure the distance fore and aft of the wing to bottom of belly. Thanks for your input and if you have a nice sideview I would very much appreciate it. If any one else knows-PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CHIME IN.
