GeeBees....Already hit the Lowes, Home Depot and even an Auto parts store. The problem is, the longest thing they had in M4 (Metric) was 20mm. With the spacer required, and the thickness of the firewall I'm needing about a 50mm long bolt. That would be about 2" in an 8-32. Anyway, problem is solved, although it will delay me a bit. I order 50 and 60mm M4 socket bolts from MicroFasteners tonight. I'll just skp ahead to the wing mounting and radio install.
Tomorrow I'm building the test stand for the RCV, so I'm hoping I'll have the engine run in before I get the bolts, that way I'll be ready to go!

Steve I found M4 X 50mm at my local hobby shop in the car section (don't tell my friends I was in the car isle). They were the perfect size with my standoff's

Steve - I've had the Pacific Aeromodels Gee Bee for a couple of years and it's an excellent flier. The assembly is fast and the quality very good. I had some shipping damage on my cowl and they sent me a new one with no questions asked. Landings are surprisingly easy and it slows down very nicely. Mine is powered by a G-26 with C&H ignition. I'm thinking I'm going to have to have the new 96" span version they just released. Here are a couple shots taken at the '04 Joe Nall. I've always liked the TF Stinson but hear it's a bear to build.

Well here is some pictures of the finished RCV install with the scale exhaust system. Hope you guys like this, I think they turned out nice. The picture of the stacks without the powder coat show-up better and give you an idea how they will look in length.

Here is a Saito 120 pitts style exhaust that would fit the P-6e fully under cowl for those of you that dont want the scale exhaust. This would work for many other installs too.

Awesome work Kelvin! I can't wait to get my scale exhaust now. The length looks perfect. Well done!

I agree, Kelvin it Looks AWESOME -- just sent you the funds -- can't wait to get mine. I will post some audio and video of the exhaust when I get it.
Now what about smoke out of a scale exhaust -- I think it might be doable with some preheat tube -- LOL

Kelvin,
Looks wonderful! I'm just waiting for mine (and the longer bolts!) and I'll finish up the engine install. I'm also looking at ways to increase airflow to the RCV.

LOL I was going to ask the same question about smoke! Great idea A big box from Tower Hobbies arrived today with my brand new cowl. It got here in perfect condition and they even included new dummy machine guns. Not a bad looking piece of fiberglass for $35.

I have always loved that Gee Bee. I have always felt that it looked better with the longer fuse. Is the G-26 a good powerplant for it?
Sorry not trying to highjack the thread, just loved that set of pictures.

I am also considering a First Place Engines 1.3 gasser.

In answer to my own question, here is a test fit drawing I made up. The full size Corel Draw 8 file is available.

Kelvin,
Just finished running the throttle linkage and had a bad thought. I ran the linkage to minimize bends, and the push rod pretty much runs just Inside the "box" on the front through the firewall on the horizontal center line. It's dead inline with the RCV throttle. Looking at your pictures, looks like it might hit the ring on the exhaust. How'd you run the throttle for your RCV?

Well Steve my install is on standoffs and i was just going to make a bend toward the center of the box and will probably mount the servo behind the firewall. So it sounds like i went the opposite direction you did. Hey where modelers we can do anything, right or wrong its right.

This is the tailwheel I put on the Hawk. Looks much better on the plane than in this pic. This one came from Central Hobbies, but I've seen it elsewhere. It's far superior to those glued in wire tailwheels and much easier to fix if you ever damage/bend it.

Hi,
I have also had good sucess using the tail wheel assembly that you show. One further thought: The tail wheel installation can be made a bit more scale by using this assembly. Mount it further toward the nose(looks like 2 inches or so) and then bend a piece
of light music wire to run between the tailwheel arm and the bottom of the rudder. The wire acts like the coiled spring and fits nicely into the tail wheel arm.

Hi Wile E,
Nice piece of work, and having just received/opened my Hawk kit, I really appreciate the consideration that your post has given me.
The First Place is a bit pricey, but sure would seem made for the Hawk! Meaning no disrespect, I ask if you are pretty sure of your drafting-the First Place/muffler fit so very nicely. Since the kit is so very well built and sturdy, I just am moved to use this gas engine!
Would be very pleased to maintain a line with you wrt this topic.
Happy New Year!!
Jim

Hi,
Just received/opened my Hawk kit. So very many well thought out and executed items in this kit!
1.The wheel pants fabricated as part the wheel strut covers using white fiberglas. These simply slip onto the very rugged landing gear where ready placed hard points allow screws to secure them.
2 Excellent fab/covering for entire model.
3 A neat pilot, all painted.
4 The windshield is all fitted and trim painted.
5 The cabane and 'N' struts must be seen to be believed! They are as tho they were cast! Very solid and finished.
6 The main cowling is huge, impeccable fiberglas and is painted/trimmed beautifully.
7. Abundant hardware.
This kit will surely become the darling of many modelers! The kit quality sure does encourage inclusion of a KELEO custom muffler!
And on top of this, Dick Petit indicated that it flies beautifully!
Happy New Year, all
