I finally have a P-38 back in the stable .. I have missed it since the last one i crashed taking off without enough airspeed [:'(] ...

thanks to my buddy Chip for paint and weathering www.apwpaint.com

I have a twinsync but i don't think I am going to use it. The g-38s are as reliable as engines get, and honestly, besides the times i have actually ran planes out of fuel , i have never had an engine quit ... Its unusual for me to say this, but i think i will keep it simple and rely on my ear to throttle back if i have an engine out ... on take off, losing an engine is a death sentence no matter what gizmos there are . If anyone is interested in the twinsync, email or PM me

Anyway, i just have to finish the radio programing, check engine RPMs again, CG, and set a date to go fly [8D]

I'm looking forward to seeing a video.
Unfortunately, mine is still in the hanger (too many planes to fly).
I agree with you: 'kiss' rule.
On take offs: I try to use the whole runway (and it better be long): About when I think she has flying speed, I wait a few more seconds and then take off!

Nice looking birds guys. Lost mine at Mac's WOG last year to the stupid act of not paying attention to the clock. I was flying with Scott Prossen, following his F4F around the pattern, having so much fun I simply ran the right engine out of gas. She went in through the trees. I intend to rebuild. I miss my P-38.

Here are a couple pictures of her with Mac's B-29. They are both 1/7 scale. Pretty cool. The last picture is the 'hanger'. My P-38 is just in front of Scott's wonderful Wildcat.

Hope to see yours one day.

hello Wojtek here is pics of my bird looks like we are in the 459th FS the twin tailed dragons. Geronimo was the only one in the squadron that did not have the twin tail design on the booms mine weighs in at 36lbs dry. gear retracted no extra weight needed

Sorry to hear you lost it [] I would have Loved to have seen it in pattern with a F4F ... I ran my IronBay T-28 dry once and it dropped out of the sky ... I flared it behind a corn field and was surprised when i found it on all 3 gears with almost no damage !! Statistically that of course doomed me for the next time i ran out of gas ... next time around it was a MB339 ( ran it out because of added air resistance on drop tanks, causing engine to "work more" to maintain speed ) ... crash is at end of video ( being repaired now ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKTG1LZisG0

and wow !! now that's an airplane hangar !!

I hope my P-38 lasts longer than my last one did

It would be cool to fly our two Lightnings in formation !! I'm really surprised there are not many others modeled after the 459th FS !!

Thank you. Yes, it did look good in the same air space with Scott's F4F.

I flew her for over four years. In that time, I had four occasions of loosing one engine for various reasons. First two times (second time was right after take off) I landed her with no damage, the third time was moderate damage and repaired, and the last time....well. More practice than I care to have. But I'll do it again, because I love the P-38, and you just don't see that many of them at the flying fields, even at events. Yet they are very popular among the other flyers and spectators.

I'm sure you will have great fun with yours again. You know all this already.

YA! That would be a thrill.....I did a lot of research of Geronimo ll and could not find the name of the pilot. Apparently he did not become an Ace beause there were only 4 kills on his score board. the 459th was a feared fighter squadron in the CBI,

Well today Jan 21 2013 Geronamo II did its maiden flight, and it was a thrill. Plane took off need only two clicks of up elevator. Two G-38's are plenty of power and the plane flies stable with no bad habbits. Just keep up the airspeed for landing and 3 point landings are a breeze.

Hope this info helps anyone ready to maiden theirs.

Congratulations RCPilot78 on your maiden, I have waiting and watching yur thread patiently to see when it would be flown. Well done on another great build she looks really smart.
Did you go ahead with all the panel lines and rivetts in the end or does that come latter.

Since we last communicated I've started another scratch build this time from Royal Plans which are not very ggod and what I am building is a Stinson SR-8. So far have framed up both wing halves.

Anyway enough of me, I am so pleased for you again well done on your maiden.

Cheers. OldDC.

Hello Sam

I am using the Beila 17/10 props I got them from Troy Built models and I had Tru turn cut the slots in the spinners for me. I had to send them one of my props, they did not have one to use as an example and they will use it for a reference for future orders. The Beila brand props are so new on the market they needed an example. They are carbon fiber very light but strong. I am getting 5900 to 6000 rpm from them.

OK hope that helps rcpolot78 sorry I don't have any flight photos yet I will post when available.

Good thing your not running the twinsync, they do not like mag ing engines ( TBM suggest not using them on Mag ing.)

What is the HP rating for the g38?I can't find it on the Horizon web page. Has anyone tried the DLE35RA OR DLE55RA on this P38?

Swordsn,
My manual says 2.2 HP for the G-38.
I'm sure the DLE's would work fine.
I saw one P-38 with DA-50's and it was a rocket but, can never have too much power!

Im building one at the moment for a friend with a pair of DLE 35RA's, 4.4HP each est. They fit great and are very clean to install. Plenty of power, they have been run up in the airframe. I'll post pics later on.
