Default WILLHOBBY FW 190 Build

Hi guys,
I just got a Will Hobby FW-190. Was very cheap though, but you get what you pay for. it looks build nicely, I have seen pictures that are nice, but.....
Here is my (probably first) question: What kind of retract would or can you put in there. The opening for the retracts is rather small and the gerar is huge. it is 3/16th wide and about 8" long. Does anybody have experience with this, or has anybody build this 190 yet?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I wanted to put a 26cc gas engine in there, but was advised to put a OS 91 in it for reasons of simplicity.
So, if anyone has build this, please let me, a somewhat beginner, know what to look out for and what to do.

Thanks all and have a good weekend...........[8D]

I have the wills hobby seafury , same deal very cheap purchase but I was happy with the plane overall with the exceptions that I had to bash the wing for retracts .

My suggestions based on the seafury is widen the wells for larger wheels , use either Gear from Shindin machine /Lenny or CJet gear .
I made my own carbon fiber pushrods and did not use any of the kits hardware outside of the fuel tank .
Also you make want to use that gas engine because these planes build tail heavy

I've got a Will's Hobbies 71" Zero that I'm reworking to be more scale. Same situation as the FW-190, fairly large airplane that looks like it was set up for .40 size retracts! I will be tearing out the existing rails and redoing the entire area to accept sturdy enough retracts to do the job. I really don't see any alternative as I can't imagine any retract that would fit the supplied rails would be anywhere near durable enough.

I gutted my cmpro zero's retracts. Like was said 120 sized plane with 40 sized retracts. The pictures show what I did. Havent maidened yet. But they should hold up pretty good.

Its built up. Not a bad job from what I saw on the inside. The covering is a frosted thick mylar material. Its painted, and didnt hold paint worth a d@mn. If they could ever get paint to stick to it, it would be nearly impervious. I discovered that rustoleum almond and ultracoat cream nearly a perfect match. Tried to upload a picture but rcu wont let me today.

Thanks for all the gret info and pics. I could not find anything on the CJ retracts. Shindin and Sierra look very nice, but they mostly refer to the KMP model, which i do not have. i did some more looking last night and found that the Robart airs are small enough to fit into the prefab cut outs. i guess i would have to bend new 3/16" wire to make it fit into what I have to work with. the wires that came with the model are bent in such a way, that if you hold it into the bays in the closeD position, the top part is touching the inside of the top of the wing, it sits very high up in the wing. I have been looking for sth to accomodate this, but have not gotten any further. Has anybody built this Willhobby 190 yet? And maybe has some pictures of it? Ticketec have you put up some pics of your built?

Thanks,
Andreas

wills and CMP are totally differnat planes and manufactures . YOU can wills hobbys home website on a google search .
One thing about is that there ebay seller was one of the worse in the world "newyork grace" he is now gone and most likely hiding under another name .
The company is absolully non responsive , I mean virtually dead to nay emails at all so if you need support , parts , questions ect , good luck you are on your own .So if you buy you must buy cheap and live with the outcome , pay more then $149 total and you increase your risk of being unhappy with the work needed

Hey LDM,

There are a lot of doggy dealers on ebay, and it's not CMPro who sell them on ebay. CMPro manufactures them, and that's different to who sells them. lot's of people/companies rebadge them with their own name, but they do not actually manufacture them. here in Australia, they are actually distributed by a reputable distributor and have fair product support.

when i look at the model pic's posted again, i am almost totally convinced it's one of the earlier versions of the CMPro with the built up wing, or even maybe a copy. but the canopy is exactly the same (incorrect) the tail is shaped the same, rudder etc, things that are pretty hard to get that wrong twice!!!

Not that's there is anything wrong with that. it actually helps knowing what every one else calls it so you can check out the other threads, find spare parts etc...

Thanks

Dave

hey Dave how are you ?
I have some good data on the China model scene from just talking and researching on the net .
CMP=CHINA Models was originally distributed by Giant Scale planes (Copperstown Pa ) on an exclusive basis , then when his volume dropped based on his poor servace and over shipping cost he lost the exclusive distribution .
Now they are distributed by many people from Nitro Rc and about 5 other USA distribtors .
THe biggest copy of CMP is FLYMODELS also made in China , same exact moulds and lines but cheaper quality and about $60 less money , you can see the diffrance on the Nitro website . ALSO you can see them on AK models , Alex carries both .

Wills hobbies is the parent company of willshobby , newyork grace was the factory rep for wills .The only company they (wills) was supposed to contract for was Giant SCale planes all new composite line . Its appears that line will never be introduced .

I do think(know for a fact ) that CMP/Wills & Flymodels does produce for some very reputal high end arfs , but as not to battle with so many people on that subject I rather stay out of that discussion [&:]

Man I heard of stand off scale but that Wurger is like "stand way off in the next county" scale and squint ! But hey if you're happy with it and it flys ok, whatever blows your skirt.

I just received my Willhobby fw-190 in the mail today.
It took about two weeks to arrive but they were good about getting back to me via email when I enquired about it being late.

I'm currently working on the Royal fw190a8 and I used spring air retracts in the wing for that one. I'm thinking I might get away with the same retracts on this bird. The exact part is "Spring Air 704 85 degree heavy duty retractable landing Gear" I also bought the Robart 3/8"Dia Robostrut 380 series to go with it. You can see the retract at the skyshark web site. Another option is the Spring Air 709 Main Gear System 74 Degrees. I think the angle is how much the unit opens, not the angle that it makes from front of the plane to back of the plane. I have read that you can shim the back of the retract mount to get a more aggressive angle of the gear toward the front of the plane if necessary.

I'd like to use a G26 with this plane if it will fit.

What I am wondering is, has anybody sucessfully built this plane and flown it? How does it fly and what engine did you use? I am debating between a 26gas engine or an OS91 FX. Would be kind of interesting to get a report on the build and flights from this plane...

Cheers,
Andreas
