Hi Springer,

The camera is a Sony HD handy cam, and the man behind the lens is my good buddy Steve he gets more credit than the camera.

Quite a bit of resolution is lost when you upload to YOUTUBE the original is amazing.

Happy flying, and remember if it doesn't have guns, then you are a target.

Cheers

The YS 115 is starting to loosen up, RPM"s are climbing, turn up the sound, its starting to prop ripp, still running super rich until I do at least 15 flights.

The plane is already balistic, unlimited climbing capability.

When I finally break in the engine, and lean out the top end, I'll probably have to fly her at between 1/2 and 3/4 throttle.

I ran out of gas again, but this time just over the runway going the wrong way.

This plane handles dead sticks real well as long as you do not let the nose come up, she will glide right in.

Have a look.

Nice job, Airnondas. Great deadstick.

That engine sounds mean. What prop are you using?

Both dead sticks were quite uneventful, I'm glad you liked them.

The prop I am using is a Master 15 X 8

Next I am going to put a 14 X 12 apc.

If you like videos go to my YOUTUBE channel and there. you will see a plethora of my Mustang videos and even this TopFLite 60 Mustang on skis, on a lake in winter.

Unfortunately they are not HD.

Some dog fighting, and even a Mid-air collision between me and my buddy Johnny, at a fun fly, with my Giant Scale Topflite P-51 and his 60 size P-40, I guarantee, you will watch it more than once.

Here is the link to my MIDAIR collision

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hHT7...5&feature=plcp

Here is a link all of my videos, almost entirely of my Mustangs, except a few, from when I first started flying, when I did not know what I wanted to fly,

Now its WARBIRDS FOREVER.

Enjoy, and if you like, please subscribe.

Airnondas :

Any idea how many RPM you're getting with the 15x8?

The high speed needle was set at about 2 3/4 turns out from closed and it tached at about 10,700 rpm.

I opened up the needle so it would tach to 9,200 on the ground and I have been flying it like that. This is the reason for all the dead sticks. I run out of fuel.

The fuel by the way is the one I have always used with these YS engines and that is the Curtis Youngblood Heli fuel at 30% nitro and23% synthetic oil. The engine is also running on a header pipe and just the pipe alone gives about 350 rpm's more than the stock muffler.

Cheers

That is some serious punch- at 10700, 81mph and maybe 17 pounds of thrust. You reinforced the firewall, yes?

Those big four strokers really like 30%. Towards the end of that last flight, you could hear it lean out and start to rip. Wow.

Hi Mustang Fever

Here are some tests results with different props.

If you like to see the whole report, here is the link.

You were very accurate with your thrust figure.

I still use the old free software, ThrustHP. Everyone scoffs at it, but I've found it to be very accurate.

Hi All, I am trying to find a plane to put my DLE20 in to break it in before I put it in my kit built P-51B/C, which I am doing a lot of mods to, and want one less thing to worry about when I maiden it.

I thought I had a plane that could handle it. but after Sunday it turned out it didnt hold up as well as I thought, after 5 flights the rudder pushrod failed, and it had a not so gentle landing.

After finding that the majority of planes that could handle the engine are no longer available, I thought, um, how about putting it in a H( Bluenose, then I read the thread on that plane, and found some guys didn't like it and traded it off for the Top FLite.

SO, how well is this plane out of the box now compared to 2008 when this thread was started?  Can I get one, throw S3004 servos in, set it up right out of the box with the DLE20 and fly, or do I need to do mods to it first?

Between todays H9 and todays TF are they about the same, or is one better than the other?

I have had the current blue nose H9 and I thought is was built very flimzie and not up to the standard of other Hanger 9 planes I have had in the past. I currently have 4 top-flite warbirds and think they are built better and to tighter tolorance's. Their kits are even better, yet a great place to build your first kit built warbird, well laid out and fit and finnish are very good. In Horizon's defence I think Eflite ARF's are very good (ex P-51B, Habu and new F-4).

Personally I think that 3004 servos are a little light for the elevator, but fine for the rest. I didn't do any mods to mine other than changing the elevator pushrod to 4-40 and put a bolt-thru ball clevis on the torque rod end instead of having a metal on metal contact with a normal clevis.

I have a DLE 20 in mine. Using Robart air retracts and robart struts. Had to do some duct work and other mods re cowling, engine cooling to eliminate vapor lock problems. Gave details and pictures earlier in this thread. I have 220 flights on the plane. It is great with a DLE 20, once I was able to keep it running.

Thanks guys, BUT, I happened to have found a 4*120 ARF at my LHS. They had it hidden up on a top shelf.  I was looking through their pile of ARf and for the most part were mainly park flyers, or other electrics, only a couple small glow, or a couple 26cc+. Then a guy who doesnt work there but is friends with one of the owners mentioned there was a 120 up on a shelf after I mentioned, great 2 4*40's but no 60's.

Picked it up for $275.    Lets just say I have the plane to break in my DLE20 for when my kit built P-51ABC is built.  I haven't decided if I want to go with a 3 blade prop and make the plane a P-51A, or stick with the 2 blade and make it a B/C.

Once I get good with the 4* like I am with the Kadet, I should be ready to take on the Mustang.

I had thought about doing a 4*60 or 120 ARF a couple years back, until I read a lot of posts on them. Current production might be OK, but 2-3 years ago they were pretty bad. Many glue joints not glued, etc. You might want to check it over pretty thoroughly before you subject it to gas engine vibrations.

Yeah, I did that for my T-34, good thing too, a lot of them were loose. I also think the firewall needs some reinforcement on the 4*, it looks a little weak, nothing some fiberglass filled epoxy wont cure

The elevator on mine started buzzing at full throttle (on the ground) so I shut it down and checked. All kinds of free movement in the elevator because the steel clevis pin had eaten out the hole in the elevator horn. Also, both the 2-56 size pushrods for elevator and rudder had started bending. Sheesh. Dodged one on that.

I'm replacing them both with 4-40 size, and I'll be using a ball link on the elevator horn to eliminate the metal to metal contact. Necessary to cut a hole in at least one side of the fuse to get access.

Hi again everyone....my mustang is getting close to completion! been getting a bit frustrating with trying to get the tail gear to work with retract. but I did get that finished and hopefully will last. but I made the whole tail gear retract assembly easy to remove if something needs to get adjusted or fixed. been on the tail gear doors as well..having some issues with that and the limited space for a working mechanism. How has everyone on here that did retract tail wheel done there doors? I would post some pics but my cell phone has been out of order for a while but once whenever i get a new one ill post plenty of pics of my updates and mods for this plane. I also added a servo speed controller to the flaps as well to really add some scale to the plane too.

Mpizpilot, I saw your other post and responded. I don't know if anyone else had or is having the same vapor lock problems. I'd be interested to find out. It took me four months of messing with it before I came up with a solution.
