Paul here is your answer as to why I pulled the R.C.S. 90 out of the Stang, the rear carb RCS 90 was one crap of a engine which I found out after installing it and trying to start it, that engine is dangerous when hand starting, it kicks back so hard it nearly breaks your knockles even with heavy padded glove on your hand, only way I would feel comfortable starting it is with a electric starter, hope the info answers your question, George aka rcwarbirdbuilder.

Rich the one I have is advertised as 82" wing span but by the plans it is closer to 83" span, the parts are hard to get, for most of the parts I ended up with Top Flite giant corsair canopy and interior kit, which is close in size, the cowl is a generiac 9" dia glass cowl from Fiberglass Specialties which I cut the rouvers and bent them out, anyways I well post a few pictures here soon. I have a Quadra 52 for it, I got the paint today, looks like I well finish painting today. I sent out a check couple days ago so you should be getting it, thanks again , George.

I have got the P-51D on the back burner untell I find a nice Quadra 100M engine for it, for now I have been working on a Brian Taylor 82" Corsair powering it with a Quadra 52 engine, three peice wing mod and a tail which comes off. I painted it a color which I have not yet seen at the field, every one has a blue Corsair.

I had everything masked and preped and had the white and blue painted before, I well need to go over some spots with the silver and it should be ready for final assembly, Who knows I may get to fly it maybe this season, George.

George,
Here is a video I thought you may like !
Old Crow from the office... (turn down the volume as it is a bit loud)
There is no music just merlin sound!
you can watch it here:

And here is an ARF I could go with... just the right size... a Spit MK XVIII about 1/3rd way down the page... sure not a h9 or aero works hagh !

Hey George, I haven't been doing anything on my P-51 for the last 2 or 3 months, but here's a current photo. It now has a ZDZ 80 instead of the Sachs 5.8. I still have to figure out how I'll do the paint scheme for the cowl - I had to get rid of the last cowl, I had chrome paint and automotive clear coat, but it ended up drying like a faded aluminum and didn't come close to matching the ultracote chrome covering. Have you ever tried flite metal? Decals are from Kirby Kustom graphics.
Also - there was a recent warbird event and a guy with Robart retracts said I should squirt a little bit of transmission fluid into the retract system with a syringe. He said it helps seal the system. You ever do that?
Bert

Bert, The closeset I come to using flite metal is using hvac foil tape, it comes on a 2" wide roll about 50-100 foot long for a few dollars, I cut out fake acces doors and stick it on before I paint, after painting I use a very fine paper to scuff the corners so it looks like wear around the edges. For air cylinders I take them appart and rub a little white lube I have made for rubber seals, I have never used trans fluid on it, I would think that it well make the seal swell up a little, that is what seals the leaks I think,, I would not want to chance ruining the seals without finding out more about, like taking a seal and soaking it in a dish of fluid for a while to see if it well ruin the rubber.
It was nice weather today so I was out flying a new airplanes, a Wild Hawk, it looks like a glider with curved up wing tips from Nitro models, took out the 8.4v ni-cad and replaced it with a three cell li-po, cut some ailerons out of the foam wing and added couple servos, flew great. than I flew a 1/4 scale DVII bi-plane I just finished few days ago, it flew with hardly any trim change which is unusual for a WWI bipe,
hang in there and keep up the good work Bert, George

Hi George,
Just purchased a RCS SV90 and I am used to using electric starters since I have a few ZDZ80s. Two quick questions, was is reasonably smooth and where did you get the pitts muffler for it. Not alot of info on the web about this motor. Thanks KEith

keith, troybuiltmodels.com handled the sales on the engine and mufler when I bought it, I also deal with Jtecrc.com has alot of mufflers and they well custom build for resonable cost,, I did not like it because it kicked back to much, it did seem like it was a powerfull engine, I just did not run it long enough to get a feel for it, George.

I think I finally fund a New Quadra 100M engine, I should have it in the next few days, I well post pictures of the engine and the re-do which well be required to mount it in place of the rear carb 90 which was in the P-51. It may require a bit of work to the front since the two engines are totaly different. George.

I fund and got a new Quadra 100M with spring start last week, it neds a compression release for the cylinder,, this is the best engine anyone can use for the big warbirds, I had no luck with the RCS 90 rear carb engine so this is going into the last P-51 I built, the firewall well need rework to fit the engine,,, I well start that after I complete some projects which are near completion which include,, 1- 89" DHC Chipmunk which got strained going through the trees full throttle after the radio went out in fligh last month,,, 2- New build 89" DVII complete other than to cover the landing gears with wood struts,, 3- 120" Ziroli blow up rework for a flyer in the club.. George.

Hey George great thread and nice Warbirds you have built and flown. I will be building a Ziroli Mustang this Winter and am planning to use a Quadra 100M for power. I was wondering if you think this would be a good combo, and if it should fit well. You may have even built and flown this combo before. Thanks for the great thread, and any opinions on this would be greatly valued. Kevin.

Kevin, nice to see someone is still building rather than arf'ing, I have looked at a ziroli partialy built up close, this plane does not need 100cc to perform. I would say first the Q-100 would be physicaly to big, it would stick out to much on the sides specilay the carb area and maybe the bottom area as well, detracting from the airplane,, once built up you can try setting in the engine to check it out before you decide against using it.. G-62 would fly it but would not have enough power for it, that would leave something with a smaller engine case in the 70-85cc with a electronic ingnition and some lead weight in the cowl to balance it, hope the info helps you decide, George.
