Of course, If you want a sweet running engine in your warbird, you put an Allison in it!! I've done 3 engine starts and every one has been a piece of cake. Its smoother than a Merlin.

I love my job!!!

Oh, thats right, duh. I think you told me before that it had an Allison in it. Allison/Merlin they both sound good ! Sounds like you got the ultimate job !!!

Thats not a too bad looking stang. I kinda liked the looks of VQ's "Obsession" stang, but, everybody has a stang - nobody around here flys a Mig 3. Let us know when you do maiden er, Good Luck !!!

The best time to maiden that Mig is about half way through the summer like your dad said. That way you will be ready for it and have all your flying skills back.

this is one sorry looking ARF. why can't VQ models get the wing even CLOSE to the shape of the actual mig. if they had done a better job with that one thing, i may have bought one of these. i guess i'll have to go with a larger gas scale version someday. heck, even the small 30" electric version that war birdkits.com sells is FAR batter looking in comparison.

sadly rare bear - I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon. My buddy has the Mig and the Dago Red, I have the P-51B. We haven't actually tried, but my guess is that the wings are 99% the same (and would probably interchange). We actually looked at the fuse of the Dago and the B, very similar construction.

I admit the wing is not scale. IMO I think they made it that way so it would fly more like a sport, not a warbird. IMO I don't think sport scale warbirds are meant to be perfectly scale, their meant to give you the basic idea & be a fun/cool looking plane to fly. If you want a totally Top Gun scale bird, build a kit & add your own scale details.

Just my 2 cents,

Wow, long time no talk ! Okay, recently I decided to switch to fixed gear. The field I fly at is very rough and retracts would be a pain in the butt. Theres not a paved runway around where I fly. I had a busy day today, I got to do a walk around and go inside + walk the length of the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress "Aluminum Overcast" 's fuse. It was really, really cool !!! I'll post pics if I can figure out whats wrong w/ my camera [sm=confused.gif]

Okay, my dad and me were dry fitting the gear tonight (factory gear) and we found out that the factory gear fit very, very loose. For those who have installed stock gear did you have any problems w/ the fitting ? Thanks. BTW - Its very possible that I'll maiden er soon. I hope I will let you know, I promise.

Okay, we just took some basswood and glued it to the block for a tighter fit. My dad is going to get some thicker wood from work for some stronger plates, they had ya holding the block in with straps ! Have to push back the maiden, this is not the best weekend for maiden.

Okay, this morning I went out to the field, but, it was VERY windy, too windy to fly [:@] But we did range test and run the engine. At first the plane wasn't getting fuel at all. It turns out that there was a rip in the fuel tubing. And there needs to be some adjustments to the Aileron throws.

Okay, the aileron throws were adjusted. Although, while sitting on the bench a metal ruler fell off the shelf [:@] It was fixed w/ clear packing tape. The retract bays were filled over. And if this darn WI weather cooperates we'll hopefully maiden by winter

I was out at the field yesterday attempting to maiden, when I went to fill the tank up, the fuel wouldn't come out. Has anybody had any problems w/ the stock tank ?

FINALLY !!! We fixed all the problems and we got er maidened tonight ! I went out to the field w/ my dad and a club member, Tony was out their and I asked if he would help w/ maiden and he said sure. I got a chance to fly it and it is very smooth and looks great in the air. Unfortunately, I did not get pictures [:@] I want to thank you all who have helped me out ; w/o you I may not have made it to maiden.

I'm sure I will !!! It flys just wonderfully, good on take off, better on landing. If I get around to it I'll take pics / video next time I'm out which I'm hoping will be on Monday !
