RE: Update
I have not read all of this thread thoroughly, but CJM TF P-40 I just
received moves 95 degrees to extend which Bruce Sanders from CJM
modified instead of 90 degrees. You need to specify 95 deg. of move
when ordering, though. Even 100 deg. will be accepted I guess. but
he said 100 deg. is too much.
And one of two pressure nipples seems to have been modified lately.

Those plastic nipples on the cylinders really annoy me. I have broken several simply slipping tubing on them. I wish all the fittings were brass.
Those plastic nipples on the cylinders really annoy me. I have broken several simply slipping tubing on them. I wish all the fittings were brass.
Old Robart 615 had also plastic base fittings on the cylinder. I have broken one of them
when I pulled the tubing off the fitting. The fitting came off together from the cylinder.
I don't know why CJM replaced it with plastic one.
I placed an order for this retract to CJM directly requesting 95 degrees movement.
Mr.Bruce Sanders, CJM, accepted the modification with pleasure.
None of distributors have this CJM 95 degrees retract, only 90 degrees one.
By the way, how did you fix the broken plastic fittings or did you need to replace the
whole cylinder?

Actually, the CJM retracts on my Corsair and Hellcat are around 92-93 degrees.

ago looks just perpendicular to the base mount. ( my F6F is still in the
box so I don't know if the retract needs more than 90 degrees)
CJM retracts may be developping year after year.
( I'm sorry my english may not be correct)

I have seen the Sierra gear mounted in the Corsair. They retract at 100 degrees. This puts the axle at or just forward of the leading edge of the wing, just like the real thing. It should also help with any nose over tendency.

That sounds great.
I am one of the first 20+ people who signed up with a deposit (actually, I'm # 13), it seems like 2 years ago. Anyway, my question--does that mean I would be getting the 13th set from Darrell (Sierra)?
Anyone know his distribution plan(s)

Thanks for the input. I just sent off an email to Darrel regarding my slot in the production line/process. Hope he responds. I'm assuming I owe him another $150. He also make a comment to the original people who signed up that he would make it very much worth our while with some kind of freebie. Thats all I remember
Here's hoping I can get this product during this fall's building season.

RE: Reponse from Sierra
I was in to see Darrel this afternoon. He is packing and shipping retracts just as fast as he get them assembled. Without the use of any cast plastic parts, there is quite a bit of hand assembly work involved in the gear. They are worth the wait, as those that have received theirs can attest.

RE: Reponse from Sierra
Hello All, I don't know what number I was, but i was pretty close to the first 20 if not in it, but I sent darrell 250.00 from the begining for a complete set, did anyone else pay for a complete set up front? and let it ride for a year and ahalf, then reading all the bashing of darrell, i got cold feet, and he sent it back, then within a couple of days darrell posted the food for thought pictures, and sent it right back to him, and waited tell he finished them, Paul

No, I have not heard from Darrel yet; I'll wait the course, after all this much. I'm assuming he will contact me for my additional $ when he is about to ship! Or maybe the squeaky wheel gets all the attention?
I'll keep the faith.

thanks for the FYI

RE: Reponse from Sierra
Hi Voyager & gang; I talked to my friend Bill Watten up at SpringAir today, and you all sort of caught him off guard. He wasn't sure how genuine the need was. I assured him that you were all looking for alternate sources, in spite of Darryl getting out first. So he will look into it further, including revisiting one he did some time back, albeit smaller. So we will both be working on alternatives. I went down to the cnc shop Monday, and Jay & I had quite a discussion on a variety of parts, not just this project. I am just getting snowed trying to do everything myself, so must get help!! I believe my lack of 4 arms and 48 hour days may have something to do with it! I'll keep all posted. I posted this answer here because I got a msg. Maybe I should put it over on my thread. But I figure you would all see it anyhow. Will keep all posted on progress. Lee Robinson

RE: Reponse from Sierra
Lee, you know that I'll wait for what you have got coming. I've put my building on hold for many many months so I can build around the gear and sp I started other stuff while waiting so this gear is not too much of a priority (although EVERY plane really is a priority--you know what I mean). We all waited for so long for Darrell to get with it and with no comms, I think most just wrote that option off. Now that he's back with something, well it's difficult to know which way to go.
I'm sure I speak for quite a few when I say that after you stepped up to the plate, we certainly owe you. You talked to us, you answered questions, and have been out in front with the community. And because of that, I"ll stick with you. WIth the type of community that this is, I would hope that Darrell accepted the (negative) comments that people posted and not turn sales away because of that.
I don't have a bird to put your (or any) gear in because I stopped building till something was available. And I will still wait to hear about results of installing either Darrells or your gear when they are made available to the community before I make a buying decision.
Thanks for your comms and status reports Lee. In my opinion, that would be a deciding factor, everything else being equal.
