Can any one tell me where you placed the receiver pack in this aircraft? I am using an A123, and the placement as suggested in the manual is tight. Magnum .91 for power (inverted) and I am considering
putting it on the fire wall just behind the engine.

Warm Regards,

Travis
I placed mine on the firewall for balancing.no problems with it so far.I have also have 3 gas planes with a
battery on the firewall on all of them for the ignition and have no problems with heat issues.
I have a Thunder Tiger 91 4 stroke for power on my Thunderbolt and I also made mine into a Razorback.

I put my receiver in the stock location, but moved the batteries to an alternate location to help balance my plane (in my case, farther back).

there's not a direct conversion but you can order the formers and canopy for the razor back directly from Top Flight a few pages back there was a poster who listed the part numbers for ordering,BTW if any one needs a razor back canopy I have one extra from my kit

Vortac Bomb Release Mechanisms:

Finally got my bomb drop mechanisms installed, along with bellcranks and controls. Only thing needed is servo installation, which will be in center of wing.

NOTE: Vortac has been out of business for several years now, so thier products are in short supply and high demand. Bombs and release mechanisms can be found at eBay, but be ready to pay $$. I am always on the lookout for more bombs, so if you have any (Vortac only please) and are looking to get rid of them: please contact (e-mail) me.

Not visible, or barely so if they are: fishing line connected to the Carl Goldberg bellcranks. The other end of the lines are already routed thru the wing, where they will eventually be connected to a servo.

I mounted a short, fat pieces of balsa aileron strip to the upper ( inside ) sheeting of the wings, then mounted the bellecranks to a round piece of 1/8'' lite ply, which was then glued to the previously mentioned aileron strips.

The ( painted white ) Votac mechanisms are mounted in the correct scale location, BUT they are not all that scale looking: full scale ones 'hang down' much lower, but it would have really complicated the installation by mounting them to fabricated pylons, AND exposed them more, making them more susceptible to damage IF an 'accident' occurs.

2 pictures without flash, 2 with flash:
CorsairJock,

Well, you inspired me with this description. I have vortec release mechanisms and I have a set of drop tanks that someone here on RCU made me which are exactly the same thing that Top Flite offered for the kit version of this plane. They became unavailable but some nice guy did the fiberglass copies for me for materials only. I just ordered the wing pylons from Top Flite so if I can get the positioning right, I'll have some spiffy functional drop tanks on this model. I also have enough of the vortec releases to outfit my Giant Scale P47 that I am building.

Glad I inspired you to do so. I have seen another Top Flite Thunderbolt (kit built) which DID have the extended (scale) pylons, with Vortac mechanisms installed: looked a lot more realistic than mine. SO, it can be done, so don't be afraid to try and do a little better than I did. Either way tho: these bombs drops add SO much to a P-47. After all: it was as much of an attack/ ground support aircraft as it was a fighter, and was the inspirataion of what may been the all time best attack/ ground support aircraft: the A-10 Thunderbolt II (AKA: WartHog).

Those SkyLite struts are really great looking, and certainly appear to be THE WAY TO GO! I have straight RoboStruts on mine, but had I known of these: I definately would have used them instead.

[8D]Hi Bruce, mine took only 12 days from the date of the order to home, in Spain. Hi Corsair, I copied your neat idea to using the plastic electric clamp to atach the gear doors, Tx buddy.

Bruce
I think is a PZ brand from HK, this is the link
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...m_1pc_54g.html
I think it is a bargain for it is price, maybe my plane is a little over the limit in 400 grs., but other buyers posted that used on heavier planes. It looks good and work flawless, maybe a little noisy, at least on the bench. No instructions are incluided and you must buy also four 3mm. grub screws to hold the struts.
You can get the full electric retract system, Skylite struts incluided, cable extension and Y harness for less than a third of the prize that I must pay on Spain just for a Laddo or E-flite electric retracts without struts, ( over 200 euros a set, and wait more than a month for them ), perhaps quality of course it is not the same, but I just need that I does its work, lets see on the field....
P.S. another goals it is that it just fit very well on the gear bay, just only close the old mounting holes for the mech TF gear with epoxy and hardwood dowels and make a new ones for this set. For the 5mm. conecting pin between the gear and the strut you can do what I did, just cut a set from one leg of the old TF 5mm. wire gear, and keep the other old gear just in case to spare . The incluided 5mm. pin connecting rod with the skylitte struts is a little short for the correct gear lenght and could not be used on this model.

Hi Folks,

I broke the tail wheel assembly in my P-47. I can't seem to find that part online. Is there a replacement part available? Or an alternative?

Mine arrived today and they look very good except one of the struts is missing a pin and E clip on the scissors. It looks like a 2-56 bolt and lock nut will work with a slight enlargement of the holes. It seems they are only for looks.

Maidened today! Wow, this plane is a flyer. I slowly advanced the throttle and she eased straight down the runway, with just a tweak of right rudder. When the tail came up I eased into full throttle. She almost took off on her own! After a few clicks of down elevator and and left aileron, Eileen was flying great. I flew entirely on high rates and corrections were abrupt. (Either the throws are more than I am used to flying or my nervousness was showing.) I made a few circuits and throttled back and tried the flaps. I had some down elevator mixed with the flaps because I expected some balooning with flaps down. Too much down elevator.[] (After landing, I removed most of the down elevator mix!) The first landing attempt was a little long and turned into a touch-and-go. The second attempt was into some gusty wind and I bounced her a little. No harm done though. This is a really nice flying airplane. It tracks nicely and is a real joy to fly. Hopefully, next time out the butterflys will have abated and I will do her justice with the controls.

Joe

[8D] Congratulations for the maiden Joe, you did a beautiful job on the bench and now you´re getting the reward. Hope that bird give you many superbs flights during many time...¡¡¡ I personally do not use any mix on the flaps, just what I do is to keep when flying at full deployed flaps and the gear up, some very little pressure on the elevator to down. When it is time to land and landing gear are deployed most of the down pressure are released cause the plane itseff got a nice and steady steeply aproach patch, and during the last moments I only try to keep the angle with the motor power and very little elevator.

I continue working on the main gear, with some of your ideas.
Manolo.

As stated in eralier posts: I am using standard, 3/8", #650 (straight) RoboStruts on mine, and I consider them the best ROBART option.
If you haven't purchased them yet tho, why not consider the better option, which has been discussed so much in the recent posts?

Yes the skylite option. Where are they shipped from? I see the guides are silimar to the esm (small allen bolt riding in a slot) my esm like this has a fair amount of left to right play. How are the skylites for this?
