Man, if Meister-Scale would ever release a fiberglass fuselage for the "Fitty" class 84" 109... I think I could kick my 3D habit for good.

RE: RE:
Per Pandi's request... I opened up the cowl for the stock plugs and caps.
FYI...Without a doubt if the firewall was 1" further back and you added a 1" longer prop hub extension, the plugs would be right at the high point of a strategically placed cowl flap thus no holes would be required.

Never seen a Dora with JG300...mainly FW190A and BF109G models....Last ops out of Salzburg in 5.45 was with A model wulfs and G Model 109's....not to say one or two flew some sorties or operations in the chaos of the final months...as almost everything was mixed together...and if they could find fuel...it would fly.

RE: RE:
I would be interested to hear of any Doras in JG300 too. It would probably be shorn of any emblems at any rate given the chaotic end as described above. I know I welcomed a JG302 scheme on my Platt G6.

RE: RE:
Sorry Pandi but the Orange County Chopper pipes have to go. You don't have a choice in the matter. I drilled out your spinner back plate to accept the roll pins in the prop hub. I also ground down the pins so they don't dig into your prop.
That's pretty much it... I'm going to take everything back apart and put a coat of epoxy on the 1/4" plywood shims and sub firewall I previously made to fuel proof the wood. As soon as the epoxy drys I will put everything back together and that's that.
Like they said in the "GoodFellas"... I will take care of that other "thing" too.

Working on a Meister P 47 this winter. Picked it up as an abandoned project. Razorback version.
Here is an old pic of the D9...... Q 75 with a Bolly 23-12. Really loud, VERY fast and aerobatic. On the 2000 Rally of the giants video.
Edit: A couple of the real thing in Dayton ...

Gefr Ernst Schroeder (and his commander, Dietsche) flew a D9 in II.Sturm/JG300 with the new Askania EZ 421-A1 Gyro gunsight in LATE 1945. The reports the two pilots made on the EZ 421 were very very positive.
Supposedly it was ONLY II.Sturm though.

Unbolted the GT80 from the airframe. I the opened up the firewall to accept the rear isolators using my Dremel and and a drum sander. I made some small 1/4'' ply wood shims to fit between the engine and the isolators thus pushing the engine forward enough to achieve approx 1/4'' clearance for the spinner back plate.
By the way... The best tools I could come up with for getting to the nuts on the inside was a good old prop wrench. Just hold the allen wrench with one hand and give it a good ''Reach-a-Round'' with the other.[sm=wink_smile.gif]

David,
You state, "I mounted the engine for the second time using the plywood shims I previously made thus providing much better clearance for the spinner back plate. From my experience with vibration isolators, the engine does the chicken dance inside the cowl."
In your post #24, you show the shims between the metal mounting brackets and the metal and rubber isolators. You also mention later on that the shims will get a coat of epoxy. With all the vibration that engine is going to place on those shims, would it not be better to use a different material than plywood? I would think that over time, vibration would grind that ply to pieces. Just food for thought and my .02 worth.

No profiles alas...
Page 274 of the first Crandall book on the Dora mentions W.Nr. 211164 a plane that Jean-Yves Lorant thinks was actually in Salzburg or Ainring at JG300's last known station.
The report on the EZ 421 gunsight mentioned in Boiten and Bowman's book Battles with the Luftwaffe also comments that Schroeder was flying a D9 at the time he shot down a B-24, when he was first fitted with the EZ241

wiener....do a sense that you have finally come around to the D9....welcome to the dark side. Wide gear stance, long tail moment, big rudder....flys like a pattern plane. Not the seat of the pants hold and and pray 109 challenges. But sorry man you cant hover it....so perhaps you should stick with your flip flop Yaks...that even my Four year old could solo....

Regarding the plywood shims. The shims are clenched snug against the engine mount and the metal face of the isolators. I'm pretty sure they will get the job done. We will keep an eye on them though.

RE: RE:
Now on to that other "thing"...
We are going to mod the 1/32 scale Ultimate Soldier "Limited Edition" FW-190D-9 Oblt. Hans Dortenmann Black 1 14./JG 26 into his final "Yellow 1" just before he TORCHED IT!! Just as the Allies where going to capture him and the plane on the runway.
I started with the white band and tried to keep a faint bit of the insignia per the provided profile. I then made tiny masks and proceeded with the RLM-04

RE: RE:
I applied the inner masks of the 1 and masked of the area around the black band and sprayed flat black to finish the painting. I went to my 1/32 decal collection and applied the swastikas, put 'R all back together and that's that.
Got a date with Rita tomorrow night.
