Well she flies!!!!

Got 2 great flights in this morning before the wind kicked in.

Very stable, very predicable as Everyone has said.

Forst flight was a non event with a few clicks of down and a few clicks of right needed. Only used half flap for landing as it started to pitch up with full flap.

First landing was nice, settled nicely onto the mains and I let it roll out and stop.

Flight 2 had down elevator mixed in for flap and with full flaps this baby crawled in and settled onto the ground like my 50cc yak, on all 3 wheels.

It is a rock solid flyer and I'm looking forward to heaps more flights. I'll post some flight pics when I get them off one of th gals at the club who was taking photos with her zoom lens.

In the meantime here is a shot of my just with an esm ME-109, Yellow Spitfire and CARF Mustang.

Yeah I was amazed how much the rivets stand out in natural light, big difference than in the garage. Looking forward to seeing some pics when it is going

Thanks Jeremy, they really look good on your little beauty. You make her behave now...I guess being on the southern Hemi. your flying season is beginning and mine is coming to an end, funny how that works While we are all wrapped up this winter you are just gonna have to send more flying pics to help keep us all warm

Hi Jimmy,

The Panel lines were done with chart pac tape and primer and the rivets were burnt in with a brass tube on the end of an 80W soldering iron. Peter_Oz who is building a jug was kind enough to send me a pice of brass strip with the correct spacing for the rivets which helped me get a consistent patter. The cowl mounts came up well and I got the idea from Terry's mounts that he made.
Your rivets looks very good!! Do you have the diameter of the brasstube and a picture?

Thanks,
Alf

Brilliant thread and LIVE again (was down for a bit for some reason?!?)

I am about to commence a Top Flite GS ARF P47 with a EVO80

Just wanted to ask if any of you guys strengthen up anything to cope with these 80-90cc powerplants?

Things like bulkhead/firewalls, wings (is a one piece better for strength?), horizontal stabs? etc etc any help appreciated!

thanks

Ryan

RK,

I have done 6 of these birds. I have yet to see a failure in the structure that is provided out of the box. I guess it wouldn't hurt to put a extra layer of 1/4 ply on the inside of the motor box just to make you feel better.

Can anyone also confirm that the retracts SIERRA offer will fit the ARF version without any modifications?

WOW!! I was reading every post on this thread catching up and thinking how good this bird looks and all the valuable information and BAM, just got to this part! Wow, Its so weird because this happened about 6 years ago but to me its like it just happened today and its got me bummed out.

Mine did vibrate loose at joints on one side with a DLE-50cc but the interlocking tabs held structure in place. Would not hurt to wick with CA or strengthen it as mentioned. Have a second one to start on as I miss the original one I sold. They fly sooo well and land even better.
80cc is a lot of motor for these, only seen a few with 80cc and they were a speed bullet. Amazed how well the wing held up as they pulled some very hard turns. To much speed for me with these old eyes and reflexes!!
