I believe there is suppose to be about 400 + warbirds here this year. The most ever at EAA as far as I know.
Normally they are all grouped together. All P-51s in one group, At-6s in another, bombers etc. But because of the new "Monsoon season" we've had up here, the planes are scattered all over on high ground and taxi ways.
A few days ago we had a flight of about 30 C-47/ DC-3s fly over. It looked like the D-day invasion.
I'll try to post more pics this weekend as I only took a small percentage of whats out here.
The sights, smells and sounds of all the warbirds flying around here is just incredible.

I'm leaving in an hour now that I have seen those photos... I will be there in the morning...
I still have room in the van if anyone need a ride along the way.

I have to say I was VERY disappointed in the airshow today. The heritage flight witht the F4, F-15 and P-38s was great. They didn't fly any of the T-28's, non of the B-17's or B-25's flew, the only Military flight solo was the C-17(which is awesome). They had a slew of current military jets parked on the east side of the runway and none flew.
We saw 2 P-51's, a corsair, and a seafury. That was it for Piston fighters all day.

I agree with you. All week long most of the warbirds have been flying around putting on a good show. But by the time I finish work (EAA Volunteer) and get down to the flight line, I end up missing most of it. Took off early today thinking the weekend show would be the one to see. I was also very dissapointed. No heavys today.
Alot of the warbirds have already left.
Oh well, still had fun. Air venture technically is not just a warbird event.

The number of Warbirds does not compare to what we had back in the early 90's. Those where amazing years. Easily double what you see today. However I would say it was up from the past 3 years. I shot the ones I am particularly interested in and modeling. Tuskegee Airmen and some YAK-3's. Checkout these cockpit shots on the P-51C. It was worth my trip this year. There was an actual Zero there this year. It flew and they did a mock dog fight with a P-38. Very nice. Leo

the last time I was there was 1987. There were alot more warbirds then. They also flew them. Saturday was a bunch of hangar queens. I took 750 pictures, I will go through them when I get home. I went to the museum today, that is really well done.

WarBird Man and Spy, those are great! Are you doing requests? Always loved walking down the T-28's. And any Tiger Cats there this year? (edit... just saw it!) You are lucky to be there. Enjoy for the rest of us!
