I ended up buying several scale spinners from Gene Barton. They're designed for the Dora and I know looks great on the Holmam Dora wich wingspan is 80in. It cost 80. I'll see if I have a picture of it.
|
RE: ESM FW D-9
Why is the Dora priced so much higher than the other 80ish wingspan ESMs?
|
RE: ESM FW D-9
No clue
|
RE: ESM FW D-9
It's easy to answer that question:
As long as they sell for that price, that's what they'll cost. When they stop selling, the price will come down. If they continue to sell, the price might go up! Basic supply & demand theory. |
RE: ESM FW D-9
That is no answer.
I'm willing to bet the P-51, P-47 and Spitfire all sell better. All are selling for less money. |
RE: ESM FW D-9
My theory is that most complained about the market not having one of this scale and YT was listening. Now they're watching to see how bad we really wanted it. I've questioned my purchase most of the day when I was hit with the $740 shipped bill.
My only consolation to this is that, most kits of this scale cost around the same price to buy and then build them. |
RE: ESM FW D-9
Let me see if I have this right
All you guys are speculating on a plane no one has see, no one knows what is in the kit, no one knows the actual price, no one knows the delivery date of the kits but there are 33 post about something no one knows about but everybody has an opinion on talk about a waste of space yes i know I just contributed as much as most of you |
RE: ESM FW D-9
$740? Ouch.

RE: ESM FW D-9
Here's the deal, the 50cc planes run higher then the 30cc planes. I bought the P-39 16 to 18lbs stated for $369.00 plus shipping. If you notice, all their 50 cc planes are over the $600 mark. The D-9 was $599.00, but I have to remember back in the day when a kit this size with a fiberglass fuse went for alot more then 6 bills. Not too mention those were usually in primer. I have spent more for less in the past. I spent in that same neighborhood for my Top Flite P-40 and P-47 arfs. Tomas at VW WARBIRDS is the guy I buy all my ESM and other warbirds from, he is a straight shooter and always backs his products.
Hellcat, true no one has seen one in person yet but call me this weekend and I'll tell you what it's like, also, I have never been displeased with the quality of the fiberglass, balsa built up, covering or paint job on any of the 12 esm birds I own. True they could use a little better quality on the cables and clevises but with the exception of TF and GP kits I usually replace them anyways. This thing will look great sitting next to my Airworld Me-262!!! |

RE: ESM FW D-9
Wonder why they are doing 50cc for this bird. Its nearly the same size as say the T28, Val, La-7Hurricane all of which are shooting for smaller motors.

If you notice the planes that are only noted by their wingspan and are 80"+ are half the price and the shipping is $90.00 or less. If you notice the planes that are noted as "50cc planes" are over $600.00 and shipping is $140.00 or more. They can't tell me there is that much difference in the Dora and the Val or La-7Hurricane. |

RE: ESM FW D-9
I think your figures are a little under estimated I have over 1200 dollars in a CMP zero I've been bashing and that was only 200 bucks for the airframe, the ESM should set you back a little further IMO

RE: ESM FW D-9
$599 for the plane
$399 for ESM retracts including retractable tail wheel $250 for a 50cc gas motor(probably be able to get away with a 40cc) $99 for RX $25x9 servos(all surfaces..2 for elevator... and throttle) $35 rx battery $40 for misc stuff like on/off switches, extensions etc Total of $1650. Servos used will adjust price. I used DS821's as examples. For a 50cc size plane, that not bad at all. Ive got an old H9 80" P-51 that totaled $1500, my airworld me-262 totals about 2600, and my ESM 95" B-25 totals out at 3600 due to having two saito 170 radials. This D9 will be one of the best flying planes out there in this size range. Dount you could get a Meister going for $1600..yes I know its moe scale :) |

RE: ESM FW D-9
Not a bad estimate , just a side note guys but Ebay is a great source for servos especially the DS821 you can pick up a set of 4 for around 65 bucks shipped

As for a $250 50cc motor.....turnigy has one and our friend Fred Damm is using one in a TF giant 86" or so sized P-47. he says it runs strong and very smooth turning as 20x10 prop at good rpm's. I have one in the basement, just no plane for it currently. Turnigy 5.5HP 50cc...$239 http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=8859 Aerovate 45cc motor....$259 http://hobbyhorse.com/aerovate.shtml Both motors have been shown to run well here on rcu DLE has a 55cc motor that runs $349 and you can get them at hobbytown(hobbyclown for you Rich). There are many of us that have DLE motors and they run well. I have a 30cc DLE in a seagull Gee Bee Z(still need to test fly that one) |
