Update on my Spitfire.
After a misshap on the 3rd landing a couple of weeks ago my Hangar 9 Spitfire is ready for some more sortie action on the weekend and a chance to wear the brotherhood cap. ORIGINAL: DavidAgar My Dad and Mom came to the United States in 1950 and became Citizens of the United States after I was born in 1951. I am the first of my family to be born in the United States. My Dad was a tool and die maker by trade and if I had half his brains I would be camped on some Island somewhere counting dollars. My Dad designed and sold products to Coke and he helped design the camera lenses that were on the first camera's to land on the moon. He loved to tell me stories about his days in the RAF and how he used to argue with his crew about weather a plane was ready to fly or not. My mother even had a scrap from one of the German rockets that fell on London during the war. As a boy she showed it to me and it had some German writing on it, so she assumed it was from one of the rockets, but it was never verified. She passed 20 years ago and the piece was lost at some point in time. As I said before, Dad passed last year, and with him went all his stories. He passed from complications from Dementia, however even with all his memory loss, he could still remember the war as if he was still there. As I said, I will build a Spitfire in his honor as soon as I get my work bench cleared off and I will keep the Brotherhood posted on my progress. As for anyone that is in my neighborhood, just drop me a line and we can meet for coffee and flying. Motoman and I are close friends, and our flying field is always open to quest's and the coffee shop is real close by. Thanks for letting my Dad and I join the brotherhood, it is an honor. I haven't found original sources yet but I do have reports on my Facebook Timeline (I am the Richard Porter 167 who is pictured beside a full scale Mk VII Spitfire holding on to the port wing tip < https://www.facebook.com/richard.porter.167 >). Welcome aboard Dave, as well as all of the rest of you defenders of Western Civilization values who have signed up recently. As you might be able to tell from the "post signature" the Spitfire is a whole lot more than a beautiful piece of historic flying art to me. We are so fortunate to have you as well as the cream of the crop of Spitfire fighter fans in the Brotherhood. I would really like to meet you since you are only about 100 miles away from my aerodrome, piece of cake! A Hurricane could come along as wingman for my Spit and just for the fun of it a Messerschmitt might be thrown in if you would like. Probably wouldn't get to fly much given all the stuff we would just have to talk about. Chronologically Challenged ScaleGuy, thanks for your contribution to the Brotherhood with that neat cap. Update on our scale fun fly.
It was a great outing with lots of scale warbirds including my Spitfire. Only had one rain shower on Saturday and the rest of the day, when I was there, was perfect flying weather. Had the Spitfire ready for action the night before. I was only able to get one flight in, but I could not get the grin off my face the whole time it was up in the air. She sure looked pretty up there for 8 minutes. Landing was picture book for the first time since I have the plane. The E-Flite 60-120 retracts worked a charm. Made me feel good, especially being under the scrutiny of the experienced club members watching. Got some nice comments on the brotherhood cap as well. hello Brothers, here are a few Photos of my setup. ESM Spitfire. 72in wingspan. Radio, JR 9x, 2 x 5 cell Nimh. for the flight controls, 1 x 4 cell for the engine. Engine DLE 35 rear exhaust, heaps of Horsepower, (well it is a Fighter) the Spinner is a custom cut from Dave Brown, prop will be JXF sport 18 x 10, I have 1 servo per Elevator half, carbon tube pushrods. pull, pull for the rudder. Retracts will be Sierra, when they are in stock, have been waiting a couple of months already, hope Darrel gets them made soon. (if anyone lives nearby, could they call him and find out for me, it would be appreciated) I think my emails must go into his junk file.

Looks good oldtimer :) We had our longest day fun fly and picnick this last Saturday. Here is a video if any of you are thinking of coming to the warbird meet here next month on the 20th. Coffee Airfoilers is the club name we have a website you can search for :)

I have the same ESM 72.5" Spitfire sitting on the shelf for a winter build. I went with the Troy Built retracts that was made for this plane. Here is the link below!! http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items...ITF-73ER3.html. Did you do any beefing up on the firewall for the DLE 35ra. yes I put a good layer of fiber glass behind the fire wall, also check the formers, mine was loose, just a bit of glue in easy spots, I know about the ESM retracts, but they are all electric now, I prefer the Air systems, had a good run with them so far, no idea when the Sierra's will be in stock. Have you tested your retracts yet? Have a buddy who purchased a plane and retract set from TBM and the the first and second set of retracts did not work. He ended up getting a refund. Just curious on how yours work. John Spitfire Brotherhood #172 |

Some sad news to report. The ESM retracts for the ESM Spitfire fail to work!![&o][&o] I hook up everything as per the setup sheet that came with them. The retract came with the gears up. So I made sure the gear switch on the Tx was up!! Re-check all the hook ups and battery, ( 6V battery pack ), hit the switch and the gears did not move!! Shut down everything and flip the gear switch to down and still no movement!! I then check the control box where everything was hook into and it was very hot to the touch!!! Call Bruce at Century Jet. He has new electric retracts...been a year in development. He can convert your ESM's or sell you a set of CJ retracts for your ESM. I have been flying CJ retracts in my Spit for four years without any issues. Mine are air but he can make them electric if you prefer electric.

I have emailed Troy Built twice, at their request for photos, concerning the droopy wings on my B-25. My response is 0 for 2. I hope you have better results.

I know you was shock to see the drooping wings after you put them together!! I can see that in your picture and they have not return your email?? I guess I will get the same response from them too. I have a club member who son is a wiz at electric things. I thank John for the head-ups on these gears. I would have been tick off this winter after putting this Spit together and find the gears did not work!!! I hope Troy Built take care of your drooping B-25 wings soon.
