RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
Any updates from our squadron here on the P-40 Brotherhood? I have to get my Z-P-40 airborne because yesterday a friend dialed in his Mister 109 and now needs some dog fight practice:)

RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
I am building a Yellow P-40 and wanted to know if anyone can answer this question. I want to use a G-62 or DA-50. If I do so is a three blade prop possible and waht are the recommnded sizes?
Thanks |

Here are two P-40's filmed in 2011. Rich Eggleston and Chuck Hamilton. These two are made from enlarged Bates plans.

I'm always checkin the thread to see what the bros are up too..my dad and I took the 40 up again today..we really were awed at the look of the 40 in flight..I try real hard to fly somewhat scale -like..Do alot of you guys do the same ?? fly scale-like ...

RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
I try to fly mine in a realistic manner. I set it up for 2 second rolls and only enough elevator to flare and do large loops. There is something about the P-40 with the Shark mouth. Nothing else quite like it!

RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
I agree with lifer. I fly my VQ P-40 in a smooth, scale like manner. A low pass over the runway followed by a slow victory roll can bring out the cheers from the peanut gallery!!! Follow that up with a greaser wheel landing with the flaps down and you know that it has been a great day at the field as you taxi back to the pits.

RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
Nothing like seeing a scale Warbird flown prototypical; that is why I try to make every attempt to do the same. It is nice to see a solid high speed low past, but the reality is wiped away when it is followed by an unrealistic abrupt pull or bank that would have damaged or broken the structure of the full scale counterpart. All full scales have a max cruse and a max maneuvering speed. This maneuvering speed is the reason for slowing down to dog fight.

RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
Just checking in on the P-40 Brotherhood.
I bought my old Byron P-40 back, so now I have to put her back in the air soon. |
RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
Just put a new prop on mine from a nose over that happened last year. Plan to take her out to a warbird meet next weekend.

Be sure to post some photos of your P-40 following the Warbird fly-in.

RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
hello all i recently picked up a skyshark p-40 arf and was wondering if anyone had some retracts they dont need anymore and would be willing to sell if so let me know thanks
|
RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
I am building a Skyshark for someone now, I put in the Robart rotators in. I had to fab a mount but they work. I have Sierra's on mine, but the Robarts will work.
|
RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
Did you install the Robart 150 rotators?
|
RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
Yes the Robarts are installed and working in my friends plane.

RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
Hey guys I have a few questions. I am currently looking into a top flite p-40 60 arf, and I'm curious could you add mechanical retracts? Or do you have to put the air retracts in? Any info would be appreciated!

ORIGINAL: Eray2012 Hey guys I have a few questions. I am currently looking into a top flite p-40 60 arf, and I'm curious could you add mechanical retracts? Or do you have to put the air retracts in? Any info would be appreciated! RETRACTS The choice whether or not to use fixed gear or retracts is up to you. Retracts offer good looks and great flight realism with the added expense and complication. The model is designed to use the Robart #615 (ROBQ1815) rotating retracts, as these offer the easiest installation and most reliable operation. More information on retracts is found in the “Tips for Competition Minded Modelers” section and in the construction sequence. For item numbers, see "Other Items Required", page 7. I have had issues with some of the mech retracts, so I would go with the Robart or Sierra retracts. However I did try to find information on the listed TOPA retract option from the TF add on this plane and could not find anything. http://www.sierragiant.com/prod30.html http://www.robart.com/air-models/p-40-warhawk-60 Either require air, but I think you would be happier in the long run. |
RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
I'm on a budget and can get mechanical retracts cheap and I was just thinking about using them untill I had the money for good retracts!
