RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Hey Guys! I need some help. I ordered the rotostart backing plate for my vx .18 Tornado, but the bolt holes don't line up. Looked on the website and the one I ordered is suppose to be for the vx 18, part #1618backplate. It does state that it is a 1 1/4" bolt pattern, and obviously mine must not be.:( I couldn't find any other sized one on Redcat's website. Am I suppose to change the rear plate as well? They have a part #q018 listed, is it 1 1/4"? I was really looking forward to switching! Any ideas, solutions???
Thanks in advance.... Matt |

Appreciate the reply. I'm thinking they must of put the wrong one in the part bag? Here's a couple of pic's, just in case I'm missing something......
Matt P.S. How do you like the rotostart? Are you using a drill, or did you get the gun? |
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
OO I love it im useing a Kawasaki 19.2v cordless drill with low and high speed, I have to use the high speed of it to start it.
How much did you pay for the back plate ? just trying to figure out what went wrong if something did. |
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
From the order sheet:
Part #: 1618backplate Desc: Back Plate for Electric Starter .16 & .18 VX Engine 1 1/4in bolt pattern Qty: 1 Price: $24.00 The holes on new back-plate are 1 1/4", the pull start plate are ~1 1/16". What does yours measure? If you don't mind..... Matt P.S. On the drill, I think my cordless is ~14v. Is this enough, or will I have to pull out my 1/2" corded drill? |
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
From hole to hole on my pull start is 1 1/4, and your cordless drill, you will just have to try it out and see if it will work.
O from here at clermont is where I got my back plate from and his price is $14.99 http://www.clermontmotorsports.com/s...fdsh-18/Detail |
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
There's 3 places I check for my parts and I look for pricing they all are redcat dealers

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Thanks for the links. Clermont has drastically better pricing:D They're bookmarked now. I'm thinking that I may have gotten an older car with a different version motor? Got it off eBay new, but how long it's been on the shelf???????
Thanks for the info! I think I might have to start searching for a new rear-plate with the newer hole spacing?[:o] Maybe the guys at Clermont can get it figured out. Matt |

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
why does the tornado make a weird sound when its running and moving? i thought i was only supposed to hear the engine but i hear a little noise that sounds like the tornado on the review video. i never really noticed this until i went to the track an hour ago.
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
mesh on the spur and clutch bell may be too tight, check it out, sounds like a whine.
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
yeah thats what it sounds like...how am i supposed to loosen it up?
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
just loosen the engine and move it away from the spur a little. properly meshed, there should be a little play between the clutch bell and spur gear.

just posted this a second ago for someone ells this will show you how to properly adjust the motor back to place
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
ok cool i'll do that.
actually......i didnt mean that noise....it normally sounds like its practically an electric buggy with a nitro engine on it. it sounds like [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mE-gKaLzBpw]this[/link] |
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
its a whining sound, i know. it sounds like a mesh problem.

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Ok I have been looking in all the hobby shops in my area and I am thinking I am just going to order the futaba kit to replace the stock setup in my tornado. The question I have is that reading through the manual it sounds like it has a built in fuse, anyone know if this is the case and if not how one might go about installing one. On the off change that I short something running it I would like whatever to not take out the battery too lol.

Hello everyone, this is my first post. Few days ago i bought my first RC which is Tornado BB, from a friend.
First time i ran it, it was all good...after 3 days i it was my 2nd time when i noticed that it speeds up automaticly....i called my friend and he try to adjust it somehow but nothing changed. I could go to max speed without pushing the acelerator. So i get this messege from him"I figured out what your problem with your car is. The clutch spring is broke" So...i dont really know what to do, i am an IT what do you recommend me to do....if its true, what should i order and what should i replace (stock) to avoid such situations. I really like it, it was fun...hope some of you will help me. Thank you. |
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
These are the site you can get parts and upgrades for it, and have you check the batteries in both car and transmitter, could be just a lose of power somewhere.

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
put your car on a block. Then goto pullstart. if the wheels spin when you pullstart it, then the spring is broke. Its an easy fix.

With the engine off, remove the air filter and make sure the carb is opening and closing according to the remote control input. Next check to make sure the pull start is not getting stuck in the throttle linkage. |
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Hey Clermont Hobby..
Do you have a rear engine plate for the VX .18? It's the plate that the pull start or rotostart mounts too. For some reason the bolt spacing on mine is different and the rotostart I ordered won't fit. I posted it earlier. Didn't see one listed on your website. In case you missed it, it was about 16-17 posts ago. (Don't know how to put in link to it) Thanks for any info! Matt |
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
I second the pull start. Part of the reason I'm switching to rotostart. If I can get the parts sorted out.......[X(]
