Here are some pics of my tornado xp's:
1. upgrade your 2 speed clutch bell to: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...4&I=LXCLR2&P=K + http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...4&I=LXDHM0&P=K + http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...4&I=LXCLR9&P=K you may need to widdle away a little of the upper plate post so the gears clear it 2. if you want more low end touque use this clutch bell: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...4&I=LXM730&P=K you will loose top end speed with this but have much low end take off 3. upgrade your single speed clutch bell to: http://www.clermontmotorsports.com/s.../Detail?no=200 or this place: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLST9&P=7 4. upgrade to this clutch spring traxxas 4146x : http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=++&search3=Go |
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
will these work [link]http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCFR3&P=M[/link]
instead of these or are these better [link]http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXVK12&P=7[/link] |
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
they are both the same, just you get 2 sets of springs with the 886, firm and regular, this is for different stall rates (higher rpm engagement of the clutches)
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
I just ordered a tornado bb 2 speed what about the tranny on them what are some good mods and the a arm's Any one fine one tougher?
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
you always wanna change the clutch spring to the traxxas one. and the clutch bell needs to be changed to the hpi one. if you dont change them, your gears will strip. change them before you run your car for the first time, it will save you alot of trouble. the links are up above. hope this helps you.:D

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
So ehroof, you tried the lower gearing clutchbell, and it worked. Sound like good news or me.
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
its much lower gearing than the 3 part clutch bell but theres not near as much top end.
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
ehroof, I saw that it went from like 17t to 13t. My question is, should I keep my 2.8 in tires or go down to a smaller 2.2 in with the shorter gearing???
Thanks |
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
i would get both, the 17/22 is good for top end (and the smaller tires), the 13/18 is good for low end torque and the bigger tires. i put 2.2 rims with smaller tires back on as you can see in the pictures above (green one).

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
I bought an aluminum upper plate for the tornado bb but I cannot figure out where the battery holder and battery pack go. Also there is a bar that came with the kit that i cannot figure out where to place it.
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
my little vx.18 is shot.
i have hardly any resestance on the pull starter. what can i do, is there a rebuild kit or somthing? |
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
make sure your head bolts are tight and the glow plug is tight too. you can get a piston and sleeve from someone, i think top speed toys used to sell the engine parts for it, you can check his site, if not do a google of infinity .18 engine parts or piston and sleeve
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
There is a rebuild kit, that we have, or I'm sure Clermont has a rebuild kit.
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
what other bodies will fit on the buggy
i know someone said the toyota baja truck body will will ne thing else |
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Hey awsome, thanks. I am going to order them before i get my car so I cam be ready.
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
how old is your engine dclintonh? how many gallons?[:o]
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
SO I have been searching and trying to find all the parts from the same supplier to save on shipping and found one that has a clutcl bell and a 15t gear and 21t gear and mip springs can you just put what ever gears you want in? will the mesh with the seconderies? I think maybe the step down from 17 to 15 and from 22 to 21 might not be as bad. what do you guys think?
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
my engine is only 3/4 of a gallon old!!
its not shot its just weaker than it was, or should be. i think my air filter let alot of redclay dust in, i used oil but that dust still gets though that filter. i also think my factory setting was way to lean. im just gonna buy the os engine that ehroof talks so highly of. just for everyones info the rebuild kit is 50 bucks from a.a.f.h. thanks btw but im just gonna run this thing dead. |

|

|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
maybe redcat, its pretty worthless though
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Who all has upgraded to the 4146x traxxas clutch spring? Do you notice the diference in rpm does it launch harder?
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
i have it but i never used the stock one, but it does take an extra milisecond to take off, it has more stall, but it just shoots ya off. its cool.:D
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
so you could probably set up the ide a bit too? Higher stall speed = more power on the launch. But is this the ticket?
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
i dont know about the idel, you could try, it really just depends on if your car sounds good when in idel and if it doesn't move. really all the traxas one does is give yo ua higher stall, so you'll need more rpm, then when it reaches the appropriate rpm, your car will just shoot of. it does have more hesitation so it wont be as immediate, but it will give you faster acceleration. you can only notice the higher stall difference when you try taking off at really low throttle, if you floor it, it will go.

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
i want to get electric starter for my xp but i dont know whitch model fit to it ?
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
hpi rotostart setup: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...p?&I=LXFET1&P= (backplate without wand, you would have to use a drill and a long flat head bit)
or the complete setup with starting wand: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXMVE0&P=M |
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
I was just meening if the stall speed is higher you could set up the idle to just below the engagement rpm and then the hesitation should be gone right?
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
yes
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
New question. Whats the difference between a tornado bb & tornado xp? I found on ebay a xp for sale from jemsmarketing for 145 it says it has a .18 engine in it, and I just ordered a bb for 125 But I thought the bb ment big block eg the .18 engine instead of the .15?
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
the bb just has pivot ball suspension
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Cool. looks like I am looking to up grade!
|
RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Wait. which one is better? I would think pivot ball is better.
