Scratchbuilding on a budget
Been designing and scratchbuilding my own planes from coroplast and PVC for over 4 years now...(over 200 so far). This plane was built for $5.00 (airframe) and was flight ready in under 4 hours. Flies as good if not better, and easily outlasts anything in it's class on the market.
With a little more effort, some real beauties can be built from the same stuff
For some other incredable examples, check this out!

About 4 years ago (spring 1998) we found out that Air Core builds their planes from something called Coroplast...which is nothing more than sign board, and is available at any sign supply store for usually around $8 for a 4' x 8' sheet. The sky is the limit for designers and scratchbuilders who may not have the money or time to use our hobbys more conventional materials.
All the plans we have are available for free here: http://www.spadtothebone.com
